N95 RSS FeedNokia dilemma – Eseries vs. Nseries
November 17th, 2008
A simple question from Aditya Singhvi. Which do you prefer – the series N or the series E?
He is interested in which types of people prefer which types of device and as well as simply answering the poll, he urges you to leave your reasons in the comments stream. By building up a picture of the usage of various devices, Aditya hopes to gain an insight into whether there is any crossover in user groups.
Head over, vote, leave your comments and let him know why you use what you use.

Best mobile video camera?
November 17th, 2008
Steve Litchfield from All About Symbian brings us his latest thoughts on the ‘nitty gritty’ of cameras in mobile devices, this time focussing on the video capabilities.
He takes several Nokia devices and others from different manufacturers and compares the picture and sound quality. He reckons there is a ‘huge’ chasm between ‘good and bad video recording’, and demonstrates in an MP4 compilation clip which he urges readers to download (to avoid distortion from any video repositories).
What do you reckon to his findings? Do you agree with his conclusions? Jump over and join the growing comment stream.

Photos taken with the N95 – award winning
November 13th, 2008
James Burland has once again dished out awards to the most innovative photos taken with the N95 over on his Nokia Creative page, and the winners this time more than match up to the standards from previous competitions.
He was impressed by the use of the tilt-shift feature and the colourisation of some of the images…just take a look for yourself.
What do you think of these images? Can you do better? Head over to his pages and enter yours for the next comp.

Water damage on your Nokia? Don’t panic
November 13th, 2008
Rafe unfortunately let his E71 slip into a ‘raging torrent’ recently, and as unhappy as this was, it gave him a chance to post on All About Symbian about how to minimise the chances of damage to the device.
The first things you’d do are the obvious ones such as remove the battery and all cards and external detachable components, but then there are some tips that will improve the chances of survival. Placing the device in a container of rice, in an airing cupboard, for three days will give the best hope, but if it has been in contact with a sticky or salty drink, rinsing it with clean water wouldn’t be the first thing you’d think to do, would it?
From the comment stream, plenty of others have had this experience, and if you’ve got any tips to share, head over and add to the list.

UI speed test – N85 vs. N95 8GB
November 11th, 2008
THETRUTH has published a video on Mobile World Innovation in which he tests the UI speed of the latest Nseries release from Nokia, the N85.
He starts by testing the load speed of Nokia Maps, and even after a missed button press the N85 launches quicker. With transitions turned on in the menu, the N85 also found Contacts before the N95 8GB. He tried a couple more menu navigations (Tools and Settings) and the two devices seemed to match up in speeds.
Which device’s UI do you find the swiftest? Have you noticed a difference? Head over and let THETRUTH know what you think.

Loves the N85, but will return to the ole ‘95
November 11th, 2008
Over on Howard Forums, JP has started a thread detailing exactly why he is taken with the N85 and loves it ‘so much’.
He wanted to make it his full time device, but struggled with data speeds in his area. There were a couple more reasons why he will be returning to the N95, one of which is the transition on FP2 which might look pretty but hinder the menus and ‘slow it down’.
What are your thoughts on the N85 vs. N95 debate? What do you think of the other opinions raised in the thread? Jump over and get involved.

Turn your N95 into a scanner
November 10th, 2008
RobK reports on Mobile Industry Review that some clever chap has created an app to enable you to scan text with your N95.
Basically the app takes a photo of the page of text and becomes an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) scanner, translating what it has seen into words on the device’s screen. It doesn’t just do English either, as a wide range of languages are supported.
What use can you see for this app? Do you think you would put it to the test in your daily life? Head over and leave your impressions for Rob.

Nokia BH-503 headset on show
November 7th, 2008
Over on Comeswithmusic.org - a site dedicated to news on Nokia’s ‘all you can eat’ music service - they’ve posted a quick review of the BH-503 bluetooth headset.
Overall it’s a mixed review with a thumbs up for ease of pairing the headset with a device, but not so much love for the overall sound quality. Further, while the buttons on the side of the headset are a nice addition for ease of use, they aren’t hugely practical as you can’t see them while they are on the side of your head.
What are your thoughts? Are you a BH-503 owner? Jump over to leave your comments.

A mobile office on an N95…
November 7th, 2008
Like so many others, AWright from brighthand.com is always on the move and as such, was rather apprehensive when switching his Palm OS device for a smartphone running Symbian S60 at the beginning of the year.
But it all sounds like it has gone rather swimmingly, and this blog post illustrates in great detail how his Nokia N95 has dealt with taking “the place of [his] Internet Tablet and desktop computer as his main computing platform.”
So for more information on his experiences, specifically with Active Notes, Quickoffice 5, Mail for Exchange and more – dive over to his blog and read away.
