N900 hits the beach

October 26th, 2009 at 8:57 pm

Ibrahim Jogee has posted this video sample shot on a pre-release N900 over at Maemo World. Not a lot to say, other than check out the quality (which may improve on a ‘commercial unit’).

What do you think? Let Ibrahim know.

Thanks - am hugely interested to see how the N900 video performs. @mickyfin has posted a more thorough test of N900 video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-udENSUEILk
(comments disabled - so I’ll comment here, if you don’t mind)
…which seems to show nice colours, but it’s hard to see the detail because YouTube quality is so bad - and it’s been through a couple of compressions via the editing software and YT. (Testers: upload raw clips to Blip or Vimeo!)

The zoom is nowhere near as good as the N86 - poor detail, poor focus. But in close-up, the image looks clear and quite sharp, and it looks like it adjusts to changes in light fairly respectably, which is what we saw in Helsinki.

The worst thing is that it seems to be unbelievably jerky when panning - although I suppose that might be the fault of Windows Movie Maker (gah!) which Micky used to stitch his clips together.

I’d love to be able to use an N900 to shoot *and* distribute interactive videos - but on this evidence, the shooting quality’s got a long way to go to match the N86.
