Five things an accelerometer should be used for

December 4th, 2007 at 12:24 pm

Over at NokNok, Coops has posted a nifty list of five applications he’d love to see make use of the N95’s built-in accelerometer.

The list includes the rather sensible spirit-level, very useful ’shake to snooze’ alarm clock and frankly bizarre (but wonderful) idea that you could shake your phone to see how full it is. Want to know how much battery you have left? Give the device a rattle and your power is represented by say, water, with the corresponding sound to match.

Got any ideas of your own? Head over and leave your comments.

[...] Here are some very interesting ideas for the N95 Accelerometer that I came across via NSeries WOM world. I really like number 3: Want to know how much memory is left in your blower? How about a quick battery update? Give your phone a shake and it’ll actually sound full (or empty)….. [...]

Just installed “CarMeter” and realised that something similar could be used as an alarm should you phone be moved (stolen/borrowed). I often leave my phone on a desk or in a coat pocket, and it would be good to have an application which locked the phone and gave a few beeps after any movement and then if a ‘pin-number’ is not keyed in a few seconds then a loud alarm sounds.
