FM Transmitters, not just for the N78

March 18th, 2008

The inclusion of an FM transmitter in the N78 will be seen as a great addition for music fans looking for way to free the music from their N78. The effect can of course be achieved with an external device, and so Meraj Chhaya from CNM | Phone Report, inspired by the inclusion of FM transmission on the N78, has put together his own guide to the practice using his N95.

Testing it in the car, Meraj notes that you can pick up FM transmitters relatively cheaply, and all you need to use them with your Nseries device is the 3.5mm headphone jack. The example he used also required power, solved by using an adaptor to the cars cigarette lighter. Once all is plugged in, it is simply a matter of selecting a frequency to record on, and tuning your equipment - the car radio - into that frequency.

Meraj thinks it is great and cuts the need for bluetooth headsets etc in the car. What are your views? Have you been transmitting for a while? Will the inclusion of a built-in solution on the N78 make it the norm to transmit music from your mobile device while on the move? Jump over to have your say.

hey great! wait, no, that other thing… booo hissss

while i’d love to have an FM transmitter in my N95 for some occasions - transmitting in my own car is not one of them. sharing my audio with anyone around me, is.

in my car i use A2DP and i strongly encourage ANYONE and EVERYONE to do the same. it’s hard to find the receiver, since the world and dog seems only to want to buy transmitters to plug into ipods - but with a proper receiver in my car i get GREAT audio quality, handsfree, and i NEVER have to change the frequency i’m tuned to - no radio station is broadcasting an interfering signal.

if we ARE to use FM transmitters built into our phones to get audio to our cars… i hope someone ties it into the visual radio program to dynamically scan for local frequencies and pick one thats not used nearby. maybe even tie into nokia maps as well, so if you’re driving a long ways it can pick a frequency you wont have to change any time soon. perhaps even give an audio announcement when it picks a new frequency so i dont have to both with the phone at all.

but hey - i’m a perfectionist - so i’ll always perfer the A2DP bluetooth device. whats the cost, about $50 USD? it’s a bargain at twice the price.

    Hi.

This is the good part, I think I will try it!

i’ve tried it and it’s not bad. FM transmitters with 3.5mm jack is not hard to find at all. what i do suggest which is even better, is to get an auxillary cable and plug it into an aux jack if your car supports it. even clearer IMO, and cheaper in most cases too!
