N95 8GB – the look and the feel
March 27th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
In the first of what promises to be an in-depth and extensive series of reviews, Mark Guim of The Nokia Blog takes a look at the look and feel of the N95 8GB. Eschewing the specs for now, Mark concentrates on aspects visual.
Right away Mark tells us he thinks it ‘looks great’ and ‘is a lot better looking than the older Nokia N95 variations’. At first glance, when closed, the most noticeable aspect is the 2.8 screen. Yes it’s a fingerprint magnet, and yes it reflects the light, but just look at it in all its glossy, shiny glory.
The buttons below the screen give ‘great tactile feedback’, and Mark loves the chrome contrasting with the black fascia. The dual slide also gets a mention, with build quality problems having been resolved. The back is rubberised so it won’t slip through your hands, and the battery removal/replacement process is the ‘easiest and fastest’ solution on any device he has owned.
I could go on, but I’ll let Mark do the rest of the talking. In fact, why not sign up to his RSS feed, so you don’t miss the next instalment. Or just jump over and leave a comment.

Yeah, I just got my hands on one this week. It’s a nice looking piece of kit - fast and responsive.
But they have REMOVED the video editor. Idiots. Which makes it, for my purposes, just an expensive brick. After a year of shooting, cutting and posting from my N93, I didn’t expect the new N95 to be missing the one application which to me is vital. Fail. I hope they restore it on the new devices, particularly before the next gen of iPhone includes video and iMovie. It’s such a monumentally stupid decision that I can only assume there are commercial rights issues with the editing software that mean they can no longer use it on new devices.
