Eseries being left in the dark?

April 23rd, 2008

Trenton Smith writing on his Trent’s Sense blog reckons that Nokia are ignoring the Eseries in favour of the more glamorous Nseries devices.

He points to the recent updates to the N95 (N95-3 and N95 8GB NAM) whereas the E90 hasn’t had a major overhaul since its release. He is feeling ‘ignored’ by Nokia as an Eseries user and as evidence points to the fact that the E51 which he is currently trying out doesn’t have ‘any sort of innovative characteristics’. He reckons there is ‘room for improvement’ in the E90 and that Nokia ‘aren’t taking the initiative’ with any changes. His conclusion is that while others are ‘making magic’ in the eyes of the consumers, Nokia are ‘sleeping’.

E Series devices do tend to get ignored, why haven’t Nokia released a firmware update for the E51 ?
Surely it is possible to add Flashlite 3 and WRT, at the very least it would be nice to have a fix for the appalling green tint you get when taking pictures with the camera.
    Ruins an otherwise great device

The E-Series are meant for business users so they value stable firmware over new functionality. For example the addition of Flashlite 3 to N95-1 and N82, it crashes my browser pretty frequently when i’m clicking a link inside a flash file. I’d rather they get it right the first time than put out flaky firmware as they have with the N-series.
