Nokia Software Updater removes Vista support
May 9th, 2008
So it seems Nokia have removed Vista support from the Nokia Software update service, and this has caused a stir in the space.
bery95 from Symbian Web Log reckons it is a reaction to the ‘constant user complaints’ that it was receiving from people struggling with the daily issues NSU and Vista threw up. These problems seem mainly to have come from Microsoft changing the Vista configuration, which has caused a lot more problems than were already occurring.
Teo from Symbian Freak also reports the news, saying that the removal of support is only temporary, and confirms it is the update to Vista that has caused the problem. The reason is for safety, to avoid potential ‘brick’ issues.
How does this affect you? Do you run Vista, or another OS on your laptop? Jump into the discussions and air your views.

“Do you run Vista, or another OS on your laptop?” <- I run nothing on my laptop, cuz I have a desktop PC - or those don’t count anymore either?
Idk what problems users were having, but I’ve been using Vista x64 since its release and never ran into any issues with Software Updater. I really hope Nokia re-adds the support asap, or at least before the next N95 fw update is released, if there’s going to be such at all … I’d hate not being able to update my phone cuz of something as stupid as this. But yeah well, removing support is always easier than ironing out the problems…?

for anyone that had no problems using the updater under vista, there is a simple fix. locate the nsu_ui_client.exe and just set its compatibility to XP.

I have the same problem with the n96 and vista x64. First phone was bricked second phone crashed half way through the update so i didn’t want to risk another brick, what the hell is going on. gonna try with xp on my mothers pc when i next have the chance to see if it works.
