N78 keypad design ‘frustrating’

May 15th, 2008 at 11:48 am

Neil from iGadgetLife has been trying out the N78 he has snagged and his initial good impressions are turning a little sour.

This appears to be solely down to the size of the keypad, which Neil says is ‘ridiculously small’. He is having great difficulty using the device to send text messages using his usual two thumb method. They just keep getting in the way of each other on the ‘too cramped’ four ridge design. He has even gone to the trouble of measuring the distance between the start of the ‘1’ and the end of the ‘3’ keys, being a relatively tiny 2.8cm compared to the 4cm of the N95. He also has problems with some of the flush keys being unresponsive, and the placement of the soft keys often sees him doing a double push.

Neil favours the design of the N78 over the ‘similarly looking’ N82, but fear that it could be a case of form over function. What are you thoughts? Have you experienced similar problems? Jump over and let Neil know what you think?
