N-Gage games locked to devices
May 22nd, 2008
The blogosphere is disappointed with the news that was confirmed this week by N-Gage.
Tzer2 at All About N-Gage has written that when a user upgrades their handset, the only way to keep the N-Gage games they have purchased is to ‘buy them all over again’. She lists 10 reasons why she thinks N-Gage have made an error, including punishing both N-Gage and Nokia fans which will erode loyalty, and encouraging piracy with disgruntled users finding a way to port the games to a new device. Matt Miller, The Mobile Gadgeteer, expands on Tzer2’s news by letting us know that the games will be ‘locked to a single device IMEI’.
Devin Balentina from The Nokia Guide weighs in with his opinion, as he thought purchased games ‘would somehow be linked to [his] N-Gage account’. He personally won’t be making a ‘single purchase’ until there has been a statement from N-Gage clarifying the situation for users.
