Cameras in mobile devices – a good thing?

May 30th, 2008

Zach from Symbian In Motion has had a deep think about the inclusion of cameras in devices such as Nseries handsets, and brings us his conclusions.

He reckons that the available resolution will never be as high as from an actual digital camera, but the beauty of having an (up to) 5MP lens in your mobile device is the convenience. Always available to snap that priceless instant moment, your handset will always be more available than an SLR, for example, which will often have to be taken out of a bag, lens caps removed, started, focussed etc. By this time the moment will have passed. He also reckons the quality from his N95 9GB is as good as anything taken from a stand alone camera. The reaction from a friend to an N95 8GB snap was ‘Woh!’

The comments made by his readers also underline Zach’s points. Ravindra and Zylam are big fans of the portability and convenience of the pocket device, and highlight the speed and quality of the pics. Do you have similar thoughts? Why not jump into the conversation and have your say?

Hell yes.! Having an 5MP camera in my N95’s is priceless. No need to carry my digital camera around with me now.

Having a decent camera around for quick snaps s great, especially when it’s this good.
N82 comes in handy when dealing with these little kritters: http://icanhazkittenz.wordpress.com/
