E61i firmware update
June 1st, 2008
In more firmware update news, both Steve Litchfield from All About Symbian and Vaibhav Sharma from The Symbian Blog have posted about the latest firmware version for the E61i.
Steve reports that the new v3.0633.69.00 is a LOT faster, as the update has optimized the contents of the internal disc – in his words it’s been ‘zapped’. He’s brought us a changelog that reveals messaging has increased in speed, SIM language recognition, foreign character WAP errors changed and an update to the Settings Wizard amongst other things.
Vaibhav brings a similar changelog, and mentions also that nothing major seems to have appeared, apart from the ‘usual bug fixes and under the hood tweaks’.
So is there anything that you’ve noticed that these guys haven’t? Anything you’d have liked to see (FlashLite 3, for example)? Jump through either of the links and leave a comment.

No, no, you misunderstood my text. I meant that the upgrading process had, as usual, zapped all the contents of the internal disk - i.e. deleted them. Which in itself is one huge reason why it was running faster.
Though doubtless there are some other optimisations as well.

has anybody upgraded yet? is it worth the effort re-installing your applications?

I don’t really think there’s a speed improvement. You’ll probably notice some increase in speed because your phone was just flashed!

I upgraded and it was worth it. I notice an increase in overall speed.

I dunno about you guys, but i think the browser got bumped majorly, same sites i got out of memory errors and downright crashing work like a charm BUT i think they implemented some sort of disk caching because it does seem to lag a little bit where it would crash or drop out of memory errors but it then continues to work. Rendering seems a tad faster also.
