N82 screen brightness fix

July 3rd, 2008

Mike from The Nokia N82 Blog reports on a topic that has lit up Howard Forums and seeks to put right one of the major gripes of N82 owners.

If you’re willing to get down and dirty with your device, Mike reckons this will put the screen on a par with an N95, a state of affairs which many, many users have complained about. Mike pays homage to the fanbase of Nokia for coming up with this fix, and gives a special shout out to Mr. X / p@sco who may or may not have made the video. With links to the video and a walkthrough of the process, Mike provides a great service to those seeking a brighter life.

Have you tried this fix? What do you think? Does it make your N82 the perfect device? Head over and let Mike know if you have had success.

You shouldn’t really be publicising this sort of very low level hack. Regular users will try it and make a mess of it, possibly breaking their OS and needing a (data-losing?) hard reset. And advanced users will have found this already.

Sorry to sound like a grump, but this is extreme hackery and not for the common man.

Hi Steve, thanks for the comment.

Of course, any changes (minor or major) to a device need to be approached with caution and should only be attempted if you’re confident they will not harm your device.

I think it is important however to let users know of discussion taking place in the space, and what techniques other users are using to get the most from their Nokias.

    Thanks,
    RobbieD.

I’m not sure if you’re the real Steve Litchfield but I do hope that whoever you are, your comment was intended as a joke.

I don’t know how from simple instructions like these a regular user could mess up such an easy and quick procedure…

If advanced users had found this already, why has it not been discussed until now? You even first of all describe it as a “low level hack” and then as “extreme hackery” please make up your mind, Steve!

By the way, you may believe that this is not for the common man but the numbers beg to differ.

    Mr-X.
P.S. I thought WOMWorld weren’t allowed to post about hacks? I even recall one post mentioning ROMpatching that was withdrawn a few hours after being posted!

the hack works great… but not 100%, the light sensor doesn’t work…so… LED backlight is bright all the time…
but, the hack can also been undone.
