N81 8GB review and firmware update

July 8th, 2008

David Dalka has written on his blog about the N81 8GB, and compares it to the N73 that he is replacing.

He said it took him ‘a few’ calls to get used to the new placement of the green and red call buttons, but is a big fan of the one button lock/unlock and the one click to start an SMS. He also says the battery life is ‘really long’ especially considering the well lit keypad, but he reckons the screen can be hard to read in sunlight.

In other N81 news, Mike from The Nokia N82 Blog is jealous that the device has got a firmware update that appears to give the N81 slicker menu transitions that mirror FP2, and can’t wait for this to come to his favourite Nokia. Vaibhav Sharma from The Symbian Blog also reports the news, saying that first up demand paging and Flash Lite 3 support have also been added.

What do you think of the N81 8GB updates? Do you agree with David about the battery life? What else is needed from a firmware update? Jump through the links to have your say.

Hi! Thanks for noticing my post. :)

I should add that once you get used to the new navigation, it quickly becomes much more functional due to the increase in the number of top level buttons.

It’s just about teaching a dog like me new tricks. :)
