N95-4 8GB NAM – put through the mill
July 10th, 2008
Over on the Phone News pages, Christopher Price has posted a review of the ‘Grossly, grossly, grossly overpriced’ N95-4 8GB NAM…I think we can see where this one’s going.
The whole post is a comparison between the Nokia device and the iPhone, and there are actually some positive views aired about various aspects of the Finnish handset. The Carl Zeiss unit is ‘the best [they’ve] ever used inside’ a device, but that’s about as far as it goes. The WiFi is described as ‘the worst [they’ve] ever seen short of a Linux system’, any sort of browsing was ‘extremely sluggish’ and Maps 2.0 had many North American limitations. The main gripe, though, is with the price point, with Christopher saying the extra dollars secure the consumer a ‘better camera, buggy Stereo Bluetooth, buggy modem’. Not awfully impressed then.
What do you think of Christopher’s views? Is there anything you’d like to point out to him that he may have overlooked about the Nokia? Jump over and let him know.

Just to clarify, we said that browsing speeds when using the N95-4 as a modem were sluggish.
We never said that the web browsing speeds on the handset itself were sluggish. We found it quite responsive actually.
Also, our review was not entirely a comparison against iPhone. We only compared it to iPhone in the areas that Nokia conceded that the N95-4 had been upgraded to answer iPhone.
Finally, we actually had quite a bit of praise for the N95-3, considering that it is well priced for its range, can be fed 8 GB through its microSD slot, and has the same firmware as the N95-4.
