Nokia 500 Auto Navigation – makes any road trip a ‘fun trip’

July 29th, 2008

The guys at New GPS Reviews have been quite literally test driving the Nokia 500 Auto Navigation system and found that it can be used for more than just getting you to your final destination.

By utilising the integrated music player (which also has an FM transmitter, allowing you to play your own music through your car stereo), and the ability to view photographs and videos when stuck in traffic or during rest stops, no one can play the ‘bored’ card. Build-wise, this unit gets the thumbs up, from the 4.3” touchscreen to the ‘compact’ size, making it ‘easily portable between vehicles’. As for the actual navigation, the icons are ‘clean and clear’, but sometimes finding a feature can be a bit of a ‘treasure hunt’. The tools are also not always organised ‘logically’, which can be a minor pain, but this is more than made up for by the text-to-speech function (although this sounds ‘robotic’ and ‘mangled’ some street names). Getting the guys from A to B though – the primary function of the device after all – was handled ‘efficiently and without any problems’. So whistles and bells aside, it does its job.

Have you been on the road with the 500 yet? What are your experiences? Is there anything you can point out to the New GPS Reviews guys? Head over and leave a comment.

I bought the Nokia 500 GPS and find that I can’t get it to take or set destination. It takes a long time to upload the maps and then before it finishes it will stop and leave amessage that the route exceeds the GPS capabilities. I am talking about a 2 mile route from the mall to my house. It is the worst piece of crap I ever bought. I don’t understand why it wants me to make two stops on my destination. It is really a wierd GPS.
