Sportstracker freeze fix

Recently there have been rumblings in the space about the propensity of the Sportstracker app to freeze at random, but the guys at The Nokia E71 blog have reported a possible fix.

The problem seems to have been that after a few minutes, or a few kilometres of ‘active tracking’, the app would freeze, rendering all data useless (especially if you were about to beat your time for your jogging route). There’s no official fix for this problem, despite the Beta Labs team being fully aware of it, but user ggm02 from the Nokia Discussions board seems to have found a way round the issue. It seems that if the app is run in the background, then the problem is averted. Sportstracker only seems to freeze when it is run on the main screen, at least according to ggm02. Another problem solved by the guys out there using devices and apps day to day – whatever the issue, there’s usually a fix.

  Hi,

  I think I have found another fix that works on the E71 (the above fix did not work for me). I found that my Sports Tracker froze after about 3 - 3.5mins. So far I have only tested this in my car, but got results upto 20 mins with no problems - do not change the “Access Point” leave as “none”, change it once you have completed the workout and need to upload, don’t forget to change back to “none” before the next workout! (not sure if it has any impact but I also have the “Workout backlight” set to “always on”…)

  sportracker has also frozen for me on E65, and it does seem to be related to the access point - I use wifi. At home I use ad-hoc and it works better, at work it’s WPA2 and often refuses to upload. If I go for a walk, with it connected to wifi, then it doesn’t always record a track even though it records speed and time!
