Nokia SU-8W Bluetooth keyboard
August 20th, 2008 at 12:56 pm
Over on her Nokia Duck site, neoncherry has produced another of her instructional videos, this time showing the SU-8W Bluetooth keyboard in all its glory.
In the accompanying article, she details the practicalities of using the keyboard, saying it has a range of 10 meters, and will last up to 50 hours with the 2 AAA batteries. She reports that it pairs easily with Nokia devices, but it isn’t so easy to pair with their tablets. That said, it’s almost a full size keyboard that folds away into a size that will fit into a purse or ‘suit pocket’.
Have you used the SU-8W Bluetooth keyboard? How was it for you? Head over to neoncherry’s site and let her know.

Mechanically the keyboard is great but learning how how to type with 55 keys when we’re used to 104 or more takes time. 6 of those keys serve purposes on cell phones but do nothing on the N810. These now useless keys would better be used if assigned to N810 function keys. Pairing took a number of tries. In part because the written instructions that came with the keyboard differed from pairing on the N810. Once paired the N810 knows to act as if the sliding keyboard was in use. Lastly the keyboard repeat isn’t configurable and I do get some extra characters entered. I normally have to may the delay before automatic key repeat starts. Keyboard operation needs to be improved in software by providing a way to adjust the repeat function and by utilizing the ignored special function keys on the SU-8W. I have no doubt that the Linux open source community will make those improvements over time.
