N96

Some N96 first impressions

November 24th, 2008 at 3:25 pm

A couple of people have recently got their hands on an N96, and their thoughts make interesting reading.

Nrek has posted on what he thinks are a couple of drawbacks – mainly the battery life and the smooth keyboard (he says he ‘sank’ when he saw it). He balances this with the upsides of the 24GB of storage and the additional LED flash. Emon reckons the device is simply N95+1, but does concede that it has an ‘awesome’ camera.

Actually - the meat of the post lists the initial impressions of the drawbacks, and how I’ve grown (rather quickly) to find them “improvements” rather than drawbacks.

My N95 8G recently died and I repleaced it with an N96. The N 96 has a lot of nice changes: brighter flash, lots of image editing functions, nicer feel on the keypad, and a lot of other “small” things that all add up.
IMHO, if you’re going to get a N95 go for the N96 instead. But, I’d wait for a touchscreen (or at least built-in keypad) in a future incarnation of the N series rather than updating one model to the 96.
