Looking forward to having him on board and covering even more of your stuff!

Just like this… is this the killer app for the N8×0 Internet Tablets?

HAVA player brings live TV to your Internet Tablet

April 1st, 2008

A nice piece of news from Reggie over on Internet Tablet Talk who has put together a detailed video of the HAVA Player which brings live TV direct to your Nseries Internet Tablet.

The HAVA Player has a number of nice features and seems to work very well from Reggie’s tests, though I’ll let him do the talking in his very informative vid of the software running on his N810:

As ever, you can jump over to the article and leave your comments in the associated thread on the Internet Tablet Talk forums.

Monitor your home with the help of an Nseries Internet Tablet

March 31st, 2008

If your house is full of all sorts of expensive gadgetry, you may want to consider keeping an eye on everything.

Devin Balentina over at The Nokia Guide has been looking at doing just that, and he’s found that an N800 could be a very useful part of the set up.

Having got his hands on a wireless home monitoring camera he noted that it could stream live video to just about any browser. This of course includes the browser on the N800, and indeed N810 (Devin did test the system with his N95 8GB though could not get the video up and running).

There are some images and a video in the article that give a run down of the system in use, so jump over to have a look at Devin’s set-up and ask any questions.

If that wasn’t enough video tomfoolery, check out the Pangea Day project over on Share on Ovi to make use of your Nseries in inspiring and creative ways…

N810… the N800 evolved?

March 25th, 2008

Over at OS News, Eugenia Loli-Queru has reviewed the N810 and concludes that it is a nice piece of kit, giving it a rating of 8/10.

The review makes many comparisons to the N800 both in terms of hardware and the difference between the OS2007 and OS2008 versions of the Maemo Linux OS that originally shipped on the N800 and N810.

There is plenty Eugenia likes about the N810, not least the battery life and OS2008 updates, though she reckons the price point is just too steep for the N810 to break through. Jump over to see what other aspects caught her eye, and leave your own comments.

N800 apps make life easier

March 23rd, 2008

p@sco over at Jassp has found that installing a few apps on the N800 makes life on the go extremely accessible. WordPy has made Wordpress blog entries possible, and typing with the stylus on the qwerty keyboard, whilst no holiday at first, soon gets easier.

Other apps that have helped ease the pain of being parted from a laptop have been Pidgin (a client which enables several IM programs), Canola to play all your media and GPS Camera for location tagging photos. What more could one ask for in this busy, constantly on the go world?

Have you found any other N800 apps that you couldn’t live without? Do you have any suggestions for p@sco? Jump over and leave a comment.

Get yourself (and your Nseries) connected

February 29th, 2008

A couple of interesting posts here looking at connecting your Nseries device with the outside world.

First up, Symbian Guru Ricky Cadden has dedicated episode 28 of Driving With The Guru to bluetooth connections, and how to use them to sync your Nseries device with your computer and make use of bluetooth headsets, thus making it as useful as possible! Ricky also looks at Canola 2, the very swish media player for the N800 and N810.

If that wasn’t enough, Pseudofinn at Nokia Users has brought an intriguing nugget, with the news that Nokia users can get free Wifi access through the Boingo network for the month of March. Jump over to read more…

Turn your Internet Tablet into the ultimate Star Trek companion

February 13th, 2008

The reality of future technology isn’t always as exciting as our ancestors might have predicted. There’s no robot maid to make my tea in the morning, and I certainly don’t have a light-sabre in the hallway. If you’re a Star Trek fan however, this could move you one step closer to Spock nirvana, by turning your Nseries Internet Tablet into a clone of the ‘PADD’ computers used aboard the Enterprise.

If you’ve got an N810, or an N800 running OS2008 then this tutorial from neoncherry over at the Internet Tablet School can give the look and sound of the ‘PADD’ while keeping the functionality you know and love on your device.

There’s full text instructions as well as a walk-through video, so you should be ready to go in no time. Beam yourself over to check out the full tutorial and leave any feedback.
