‘Trail-plazing’ with Nokia Maps
April 14th, 2008
Peter Rukavina from Ruk has made a handy tool that enables you to convert any Plaze location into a landmark on your Nokia Maps-enabled device.
With a great browser button add-on and an easy to follow walkthrough, it won’t be long before you’re converting your Plazes into Nokia Maps landmarks. Big thanks must go to Peter for making this so easy. Just goes to show how powerful Nokia Maps can be with a little creativity thrown in.
So what other ways have you found to make Nokia Maps more relevant to you? Jump over and share them on Peter’s site.

‘Kick-ass’ Ovi knocks Flickr for five
April 14th, 2008
Dotsisx from Symbian Guru shares some thoughts on Ovi about why the service is described by Danish blogger Gersbo as ‘kick-ass’.
Dotsisx gives us five reasons of her own why Ovi is the sharing platform of choice for her. It’s simple – first time users can get to grips with it straight away. It’s easy to manage – all done with a few mouse clicks. It’s easy to share – compared to Flickr this service is simple. It’s user friendly – tip boxes are always present and hitting Help doesn’t leave you wondering why you bothered.
So that’s what Dotsisx thinks….only 4 you say? Well we wouldn’t want to steal all her thunder. Jump over and find out what else she thinks, then leave a comment. If Dotsisx’s five reasons weren’t enough, check out Gersbo’s pages to see what his five are.

S60 Dictionary query goes in circles…
April 7th, 2008
One of the great things about the internet, is the way it links things together.
Only this morning, I was reading Mike’s quick look at the Dictionary 2.0 app over on The Nokia N82 Blog. He thinks it’s a nice application, and notes that while a dictionary isn’t a regular, must-use app, it can certainly be useful when you need it.
It was interesting therefore, to pop over to Howard Forums just moments ago, and be met by corny2007 asking whether anyone knew of a dictionary app for the N95 8GB.
If you’ve got any questions, get out there and explore the forums and see the communities that exist out there at work…

Use your Nokia RSS reader wisely
April 4th, 2008
Amir over at Mobile Space has stitched together a guide to getting the most out of the Nokia RSS reader that you can find on your Nseries device.
The post looks at the RSS reader to see if it fulfils the needs of the average user or whether one might need to employ a third party app in order to reach RSS nirvana. Amir for one is happy with Nokia’s built in offering it turns out, though he does note certain limitations, not least the relatively small number of recent articles that the reader will list.

A barcode tip for Nseries users…
April 4th, 2008
Continuing his series of tips over on The Nokia Guide Devin Balentina has taken a look at the barcode reader on Nseries devices that can help you wrangle with links, text and so on in a quick to read fashion by rendering them as, you guessed it, a barcode that can be easily read through your camera. He even includes a link to creating your own barcodes, so you can really take advantage of this nifty feature.

Secure your N95
April 2nd, 2008
Just as in the real world, you need to be careful when playing in a virtual world. Windows users will be well versed in virus management, but do you need to be as wary with your S60 device?
Over on The N95 Users forums is a discussion on that very subject. The discussion was kicked off by sandrodz who wondered whether it was worth being wary of viruses on the N95. The views are mixed, but generally guide users to be as wary as possible in order to stay safe.

Nokia services to complement your Nseries
April 2nd, 2008
Over on Last100 Steve O’Hear has written about a couple of Nokia’s service offerings that are worth a look for any Nseries owner.
Ovi, including Share on Ovi which continues to pick up users, is looked at in terms of its positioning as is the much talked about Comes With Music. This is Nokia’s ‘all-you-can-eat music offering’ that will allow those who are happy to use their mobile device as their music player access to literally millions of tracks all inclusive with the handset purchase price.

Nokia BH-604 and BH-503 headphones under consideration
March 27th, 2008
Amir over at Mobile Space has done a neat comparison of the Nokia BH-503 and BH-604 stereo blue-tooth headphones which he’s tested with his N82.
Amir works his way through the various features of the headsets including their built in microphones (which he tests on both calls and for taking voice memos) as he determines which is a better choice. Ultimately it is the BH-503 that wins out but check the full breakdown for the details.
What are your views on the headsets? Jump over to leave a comment for Amir.
