6220 Classic – ‘awesome’

September 4th, 2008

The guys who run the Fansite of Nokia Professional Training have posted about their experiences with the 6220 Classic.

They reckon the camera is ‘awesome’, and able to capture decent images in less than ideal conditions thanks to the Xenon flash. In fact they think it’s ‘quite a treat’. The video capture could have been better, but they didn’t mind this, especially as the keypad was ‘quite decent’. They thought that the D-Pad performed well for its size, especially diagonally, which was handy for the games emulator they ran.

Have you had your hands on a 6220? Does it live up to your expectations? Jump over and let the guys know.

6220 camera, dark bar, great photos

August 28th, 2008

Mark Guim has posted on his Nokia Blog about his recent night out with his friends and his 6220 Classic.

From the slideshow it looks like all had a very good evening, and Mark has shared with his readers the ease of which he and his friends were able to snap pics with the camera on the 6220. He loved the xenon flash, saying it is better than the N82 due to the portability of the handset that surrounds it. There was one slight niggle with the camera which was the focussing, but enough of the pictures came out well for that not to be much of an issue.

What do you think of the camera in the 6220? Does it perform for you? What would you change? Head over and share your thoughts with Mark.

Nokia 6220 photos in macro

August 27th, 2008

James Burland from Nokia Creative brings us more of his 6220 photo work, this time focussing on the macro capabilities of the handset.

He says that the focus lock is ‘fast and reliable’ in bright sunlight, but doesn’t perform as well in low light. James reckons that this device ‘matches’ any 5 MP device, but has a minor niggle that taking photographs is a bit ‘fiddly’, causing him to drop the handset. He also says that the handset is just too small to be a decent photography tool. That said, the results are quite good, and he shares a few with us.

What do you think of the 6220 camera? Is it a decent enough handset to cope with macro shots? Head over and let James know what you think.

6220 photo capture

August 25th, 2008

James Burland from Nokia Creative has been out and about snapping Mother Nature with his 6220 Classic, and has posted the results for all to see.

He says they are ‘almost indistinguishable’ from images captured on the ‘legendary’ N95, high praise indeed. James even goes as far as to say that images will equal anything captured on the N82. The only difference he can see is that the images are slightly softer than normal – not as much noise, but not as much detail.

So what do you think of the 6220 camera? Have you taken any nice pictures with it yet? Head over and let James know.

6220 - ‘remarkable’

August 22nd, 2008

Editor1 from Tech News and Reviews has grabbed a Nokia 6220 Classic and brings us the collected thoughts in a review.

The ‘bombastic’ features are given a positive mention, as is the ‘high-end functionality’ of the handset. Although it is described as having ‘ordinary’ looks, the 6220 packs a ‘well hyped’ 5MP Carl Zeiss camera behind its ‘plasticky’ front control panel. So despite looking simple, the features packed into the handset make the 6220 ‘extremely impressive’, and the ‘tons of plastic’ hide a ‘remarkable’ handset.

Have you got your hands on a 6220 yet? What do you think of the handset? Has Editor1 left anything out? Jump over and have your say.

Keep track of your device with Phonelocator

August 22nd, 2008

Rafe from All About Symbian and Apoc from Symbian Freak have both reported on the new Phonelocator app that helps you geo-track your device.

Apoc writes that the ‘realtime GPS tracking’ app lets you use maps to see where your device is that very moment, and also allow others to know. Rafe has done a real life test (by attaching a device to his dog), but hasn’t published the results as they weren’t terribly good. He does include some screen shots of the app, though, which help show how it works.

Is this something you’d download to your device? What uses can you see for this? Head over and let Rafe know, or join in the SF forum thread.

More free apps sites

August 22nd, 2008

Having seen yesterday’s post on where to find the best free apps, gerrymoth - the Nokia Addict – has posted his own directory.

Separated neatly into categories by producer of the app, gerrymoth breaks down the list into four easy sections. Starting with Nokia-produced content, he has all the usual suspects from Chat to Maps, before moving on to externally sourced apps. There’s the Epocware set (Handy Taskman and Handy Converter included) and Google’s ‘Gaggle’ (Maps and Mail), followed by a whole host of others. All the apps you read about are listed, and this is a perfect place to start for the new user looking to pimp their device.

Are you a newbie just starting out? How is this list for you? Power users, anything that should be added? Jump over and let gerrymoth know what you think.

New Nokia enhanced calculator – forum thoughts

August 21st, 2008

Following on from the recent announcement of Nokia’s enhanced calculator, the IPMart forum has a large thread discussing its pros and cons.

There’s a lot of thanks given to original poster cred, with the discussion then turning to its merits. [Master] says that it is better than the pre-installed Nokia calculator, but bchliu reckons it is a ‘rip-off’ of the Calcium app many have on their devices. hamzaB reports that there is already an update, probably just to iron out any bugs that may have crept into the original.

Have you tried this calculator yet? Is it better for you than others? Join in the forum discussion and let other know your thoughts.

Video from Mac to S60

August 20th, 2008

In the latest instalment of his trials with a Mac (from the point of view of a newbie), Steve Litchfield from All About Symbian has posted about transferring video.

Together with loads of screenshots detailing every step of the process, Steve provides an extensive walk through of what happened when he tried to transfer video from different devices (6220 Classic, N95 8GB, N93). Trying three editing solutions is also part of the fun, and he reports that apart from some ‘clumsiness’ those he tried were good, and he’d have plumped for iMovie HD.

After reading the post, are there any suggestions that you have for Steve to improve his experience? Are you now going to try transferring from S60 to a Mac? Head over and join in the comment stream
