‘Simple good looks’ of the 6220 belie what is beneath

October 8th, 2008

Hillary Childs has shared her thoughts on the 6220 Classic over at Absolute Gadget, and reckons it’s an ‘ideal device’ for Nokiaphiles.

With ‘plenty going on’ under the hood, the looks of the handset may be deceiving compared to other ‘wizzy’ form factored devices. The GPS works well even indoors, browsing is ‘a cinch’ and sharing pics without waiting for a PC connection is easy. For the Nokia enthusiast, she reckons that the combination of form factor and features makes this a winner.

Would you agree with Hillary or do you think the build quality lets this handset down? Head over and let her know.

Why choose the Nokia 6220 Classic?

October 7th, 2008

Simon Reeve has told the readers of his blog what made him opt for the 6220 Classic over other handsets on the market.

Giving reasons why he passed over the iPhone and the N95 8GB (a frustrating typing experience and a lack of lens cover respectively), he goes on to tell us how he plumped for the 6220. The ‘deceiving’ looks belie a light handset with a screen that is ‘more than adequate’ for his needs, and the 5MP camera obviously was a pull factor.

What advantages does the 6220 hold for you over other handsets? What would you like to see Simon review in his next post? Jump over and let him know.

Nokia 6220 camera test – video

October 7th, 2008

MedionMackaN has posted on YouTube showing the video capabilities of the Nokia 6220 Classic’s camera in action.

Toting the same 5MP Carl Zeiss camera unit as the N95 8GB, the 6220 is shown by MedionMackaN in a low lit environment. He then demonstrates moving from high to low contrast light areas as well as zooming in on his PC monitor to show how well the 6220 copes with the transitions. The lack of commentary goes to show that he thinks the results speak for themselves.

Do you agree? What are your experience with the camera on this handset? Jump over and let him know what you think of what you see.

Ricky’s 6220 unboxing

October 3rd, 2008

Avrind Katoch from Electronic Edge has reposted the unboxing of the 6220 that Ricky Cadden (the Symbian Guru) produced, and has shared it with his readers.

Ricky briefly gives us a tour of the handset before spending time examining the lens cover before going through the rest of the box contents. Discovering the dedicated navigation key, he likes the way it will light up when a GPS signal is present. He is pleased that the gallery button has gone, as he reckons they are ‘annoying’, but isn’t a great fan of the ‘little bitty’ keys. He says it is very small compared to N82, and is noticeably skinnier.

What do you think of the 6220? Is it the ideal GPS package for you? Jump over and leave Avrind a comment.

6220 Classic vs. N82

September 29th, 2008

Ricky Cadden from Symbian Guru has been looking at the 6220 Classic, and he really can’t see the point – especially when the N82 is available.

In his article, he says that ‘everything about the 6220 Classic is ho-hum’, and says that the N82 outshines this more expensive handset in many areas. There is only one speaker on the 6220, and the audio jack is 2.5mm but the audio interface is identical to the N82. The camera is great, but leaves a purple haze over photographs, adding to the ‘standard experience’ that the 6220 gives the user. Overall, he says the N82 experience is ‘better’, and can’t see the reason to get a 6220 Classic.

What are your thoughts on the subject? Can you see any merit in the 6220? Head over and let Ricky know what you think.

6220 build quality – ‘solid’

September 23rd, 2008

Over at Symbian Guru, the man himself has posted his thoughts about the construction of the 6220 Classic, and his opinions seem to counter most posts that have been reported on these pages to date.

Others have written about the ‘plasticky’ handset that felt ‘cheap’, but The Guru thinks the ‘lightweight’ feel and fingerprint resistant finish could be a winner. The D-pad gets the thumbs up for its ‘well-defined clicks’ and raised edge, but the S60 menu and clear buttons are a bit too easy to press by mistake. The ‘solid’ feel wins out though, and he’s impressed by the handset.

Do you agree with The Guru? Does the 6220’s build quality stand up to scrutiny in your eyes? Jump over and let him know what you think.

Another 6220 review

September 18th, 2008

Over at Mobile Phone Earth , the guys have completed a review of the 6220, and bring us their thoughts in an enlightening post.

From the ‘truly impressive’ screen to the ‘crisp and sharp’ quality of the images from the 5MP camera, there wasn’t much that didn’t ring their bells. Where others have been critical of the build quality and materials, these guys just make mention of the ‘high-shine…classic black’ exterior. All that, and it ‘slips very comfortably’ into most pockets, too.

Have you had your hands on a 6220 yet? Do you agree with these guys? Jump over and have your say on the matter.
