Shah has been writing about his experiences as an E61i owner, and he thinks that the device could be the ‘best…in the world’.
Coming from an E61, Shah found the 2MP camera to be a ‘bit of a bonus’ as he likes to take pics on the move. He also found that although the E61 was ‘packed’ with features, it loses out to the ‘i’ version for usability. Coupled with a Bluetooth connection, it has allowed Shah to ‘go wireless’ via his laptop, and the best things for him is the ability to watch YouTube videos ‘anytime, anywhere’.
Do you use your device to ‘go wireless’? Is there anything Shah is missing out on that he has yet to discover on the E61i? Could the E71, or one of Nokia’s other new devices offer an even better experience? Head over and let him know.

E61i video review

There’s a short E61i video review on Miniclip from MGC Mag that runs through the E61i, then compares it to the E61.
Sadly mute (although the site is German, so a commentary might not have been as enlightening as we’d have hoped), the video nevertheless shows us every aspect of the device, and the comparison shots highlight all the physical differences between the two. A classic physical unboxing, the video shows the device from start up and through the menus. A great place to see the difference in these two classic devices, and see where new kid on the block, the E71, got its heritage.

Best video player for S60?

Scott Janousek, posting on his blog, has brought his readers a digest of some of the best S60 flash video players (rather than just video file players like DivX) on the market.
EmTube gets a mention, along with screen shots and the assertion that it is Scott’s favourite – he likes the UI and says it is a ‘nice native S60’ player. MobiTubia also gets the thumbs up for being ‘simple but effective’, but FLVPlayer didn’t seem to work for him. He mentions a few other options, including an appeal to his readers asking if they have developed a video player of their own.

Keep track of your device with Phonelocator

Rafe from All About Symbian and Apoc from Symbian Freak have both reported on the new Phonelocator app that helps you geo-track your device.
Apoc writes that the ‘realtime GPS tracking’ app lets you use maps to see where your device is that very moment, and also allow others to know. Rafe has done a real life test (by attaching a device to his dog), but hasn’t published the results as they weren’t terribly good. He does include some screen shots of the app, though, which help show how it works.

Having seen yesterday’s post on where to find the best free apps, gerrymoth - the Nokia Addict – has posted his own directory.
Separated neatly into categories by producer of the app, gerrymoth breaks down the list into four easy sections. Starting with Nokia-produced content, he has all the usual suspects from Chat to Maps, before moving on to externally sourced apps. There’s the Epocware set (Handy Taskman and Handy Converter included) and Google’s ‘Gaggle’ (Maps and Mail), followed by a whole host of others. All the apps you read about are listed, and this is a perfect place to start for the new user looking to pimp their device.

New Nokia enhanced calculator – forum thoughts

Following on from the recent announcement of Nokia’s enhanced calculator, the IPMart forum has a large thread discussing its pros and cons.
There’s a lot of thanks given to original poster cred, with the discussion then turning to its merits. [Master] says that it is better than the pre-installed Nokia calculator, but bchliu reckons it is a ‘rip-off’ of the Calcium app many have on their devices. hamzaB reports that there is already an update, probably just to iron out any bugs that may have crept into the original.

Find the best free apps for your Nokia

Joshua from gHacks.net has posted a very handy list of all the main places to go to grab yourself the best free apps for your Nokia.
Basically a collection of forums and sites, Joshua explains what can be found at each, and how much digging will have to be done to find the perfect app. Starting with Mosh, Nokia’s ‘portal for free apps, games, audio and images’, he goes on to take in many of the sites that will be well known to power users, but might well be undiscovered by those new to Symbian. A must-read for anyone looking to get the best out of their device.

Nokia SU-8W Bluetooth keyboard

Over on her Nokia Duck site, neoncherry has produced another of her instructional videos, this time showing the SU-8W Bluetooth keyboard in all its glory.
In the accompanying article, she details the practicalities of using the keyboard, saying it has a range of 10 meters, and will last up to 50 hours with the 2 AAA batteries. She reports that it pairs easily with Nokia devices, but it isn’t so easy to pair with their tablets. That said, it’s almost a full size keyboard that folds away into a size that will fit into a purse or ‘suit pocket’.

Nokia release Enhanced Calculator

At All About Symbian, Rafe has brought us news that Nokia Beta Labs has introduced a calculator ‘borrowed’ from S40.
The enhanced calculator, as the name suggests, goes beyond the standard plus and minus, encompassing as it does a scientific mode and one that helps work out loan calculations. It differs in lots of ways from both the original S60 calculator and much favored Calcium, being written in Java for one. This has caused commenters such as shoobe01 to mention they prefer a native application, but what are your views? Will you be ditching whatever you use now in favour of this? Speed up your S60 device

Sometimes tips turn up in ones and twos in various blog posts and forum threads, but tarak on the Noeman forum has consolidated lots of tricks into one handy list.
Some will be well known to long time users, but those new to S60 might be looking for ways to speed up their experience. Hints like setting log durations to one day instead of thirty, and using numerical keys to navigate menus are old hat to most S60 owners, but tricks like keeping your firmware updated will be useful for newbies/normobs.
