Zach on Symbian in Motion is a big fan of SkyeQuiKey, the app for controlling and launching a number of items by typing direct from your Active Standby screen. He has however happened upon a competitor in this arena in the form of T9nav.
Zach pitches T9nav against the benchmarks set by SkyeQuiKey and while it does the job, it doesn’t live up to his expectations. Jump over for Zach’s full review.

Bh-703 headset comes up trumps

Alex Bhaswara at Nokia Fanboy has hooked himself into the BH-703 headset, and been very pleased with what he’s found.
Comparing the headset to his own BH-208 he found every aspect improved with the great design and longer talk-time being particular advantages. On top of this, Alex was very taken with the DSP (digital signal processing) noice cancellation technology which made using the headset while cycling a much more pleasant experience.

The Nseries/Eseries conundrum

Vaibhav Sharma over on The Symbian Blog has been wondering whether the lack of an Nseries QWERTY device, and the release of the E71 with all its updates, means that potential users might be moved to check it out over an Nseries offering?
Vaibhav thinks that while Eseries and Neries may be moving closer together, the divide is still there and features such as the 2.5mm headset jack make this clear. However, his question is where the line should be drawn, and where compromises should be made? In his opinion, he wants to at least see moves to make the core user experience of each device comparable.

N82 ‘real world review’ plus Google Reader update

Over on The Symbian Blog, Vaibhav Sharma has posted both a ‘real world review’ of the N82 (black) and some info on an update to Google Reader for S60.
Taking Google Reader first, Vaibhav reports on an update to Google Reader as rendered on some S60 devices (not E61i for example). He also includes screenshots from his E90 and N95. RichB commenting, doens’t like the new look, though Vaibhav is beginning to get used to it.
Meanwhile, the black N82 has been wooing Vaibhav who finds it ‘much more appealing’ than the silver version. Having reviewed it from a tech point of view already, he looks at what friends and family think of the device and reports their views. Jump over from some interesting insights.

Widsets and Ovi Share get a Summer wardrobe

A couple of interesting updates for those in the Nokia world come in the form of a Widsets upgrade and enhancements for Share on Ovi.
Pseudofinn on Nokia Users has looked at the update to Widsets which he says will bring a big change to the My Profile widget increasing the feature set in sharing your favorite widsets (amongst other info) with others. He also includes a run down of other more minor updates.
Meanwhile, Vaibhav Sharma on The Symbian Blog brings news of support for the PicLens plug-in for Share on Ovi - a very nifty solution for full screen browsing. Alongside this, Vaibhav brings word of a new ‘extra large’ image size plus his own ideas for what updates should be implemented in the future.

Remapping the keypad on your device

There are many reasons why you might want to remap the keys on your Nokia device: more comfortable gaming, increased productivity, or simple personal preference. If you’ve been wanting to do this for a while, you might find an app called Magic Keys particularly useful.
Z-Mario and Teo over on Symbian Freak have reviewed the app with a great walk through of how it works (including screen shots) and, of course, a download link, so you can give it a go and see what you think…

Nokia BH-703 headset reviewed

While devices may in themselves be great things, they can be improved even further with the addition of the odd enhancement or two…
Gerrymoth, he of Nokia Addict, has shown just what a bluetooth headset can bring to the party by
reviewing the Nokia BH-703 headset, a ‘cool’ looking in-the-ear headset that offers USB charging - a great addition in Gerrymoth’s eyes. Despite these plus points however, the headset just wouldn’t stay in his ear very easily, which is obviously frustrating for such a product and was the one thing that stopped enjoyment from what else was on offer.

Built in IM client – makes messaging a dream

jamespowell1989 from Talk About Nseries has brought a handy hint to the space, for those of us who haven’t discovered the built-in IM client on our devices.
He introduces the Mobjab application that will connect your device to any IM gateway that you choose. With a handy step-by-step guide, James walks us through the process, with screenshots at each stage. He reckons once you’re signed up, then the ‘simple and easy to use interface’, coupled with the ‘huge area’ available to view conversations makes for a very pleasant experience. James says that the functionality (such as being able to change the alert tone when you receive a message) makes this app ‘streets ahead’ of any of its rivals.

Nokia S60 BH-503 headphones review

Over on The Symbian Blog, Vaibhav Sharma has been testing out the power of the BH-503 headphones.
He starts out by saying that the headphones allow the user to listen to music wirelessly ‘in great stereo quality’. Vaibhav reckons his previously held opinion that Bluetooth isn’t capable of streaming music has been blown ‘completely out of the water’ by these headphones. The ‘crisp and deep’ sound that they produce, coupled with the design means that ‘however hard you rock your head’, these babies aren’t going to come loose. And the signal is strong and constant too, with no ‘cracking or stuttering’, even through a wall! Vaibhav reckons these are a ‘good buy’ and recommends pairing them with an Eseries to make a ‘great combination’.

Windows Live comes to S60

The recent update to Windows Live for S60 to make it available to a number of new territories, including the US, has made Live Messenger and Hotmail available to a wider selection of S60 users and has found much coverage in the space.
Brandon at Nokia Users has covered the news which he thinks has its up points, in that users in seven new countries (including the US) can now use the services, and down points, in that while the service is initially free there will be charges to use the it further down the line.
