N85 doesn’t *quite* cut it

March 19th, 2009

Over at My Nokia E65, there is a little debate going on as to what the next device should be, and the N85 is put up for discussion.

The FM transmitter gets a big thumbs up, causing ‘excitement’, followed by the realisation that many of the features are similar to the N96 and N96. This is added to - the buttons are ‘a little laborious’ to use, and the speed isn’t up to that of Eseries devices. That said, it might be an early adopter’s choice, but the search for an E65 replacement will continue.

What do you think of the N85? Can it replace an Eseries? Jump over and let the guys know.

Sage advice for your next device choice

February 27th, 2009

The About Cheap Mobiles team has posted an article containing some wise words about the ‘gadgetisation’ of mobile devices.

They warn that the inclusion of better cameras, GPS and FM transmitters can all lead to bulkier devices, and ‘eat up’ battery power. They suggest that before a device choice is made, you must consider what you wnat it to do, and select based on the model that covers your bases.

Do you think a device should have as many enhancements as possible, or are you in the simple handset camp? Head over and let others know.

Some thoughts on Nokia Friend View

December 16th, 2008

Mark Guim over at The Nokia Blog has been looking at Nokia location and micro-blogging tool Friend View and noted a few issues with the service.

The main problem he has found is that not enough of his close friends are using Friend View for it to be worth his time. In the comments Andrew also points out that he doesn’t like the thought of his girlfriend knowing his every movement(!) Have you tried using Friend View? Do you have something to add to this discussion? Share your thoughts here.

E65 will ‘continue to be popular’

December 5th, 2008

Eric from feedingMobile has shared his thoughts on the E65, and reckons it will always have appeal over other Eseries devices.

Rating it a 7.5 out of 10, Eric reckons that the device doesn’t have the ‘horsepower’ to keep up with newer releases but does have the cachet of being a ‘stylish thin slider’. He is also a fan of the ‘solid’ build and great battery life, and reckons the E66’s keys are ‘flat’ and ‘boring’ in comparison.

What do you think of the E65? Does it still have what it takes? Let Eric know what you think and where your favour lies.

Nokia issued with a ‘to do’ list

November 24th, 2008

The Renegade Fanboy has come up with a wish list of improvements and innovations that he’s looking for Nokia to implement in the coming weeks and months.

Some of them are to do with devices and limiting the number of releases in each year. He reckons that there should be two N- and two Eseries per 12 months. He also implores the manufacturer to ensure that all devices are made released with USB charging. Many of the suggestions are quite enlightening, so head over and see what you think, then add any more you’re desperate to see.
