6220 – it’s a grower and a keeper

July 21st, 2008

Live Journal user Stylemeister (a.k.a. plwh888) has purchased a 6220 handset, and although it took a while, now he can’t get enough of it.

Initially he was disappointed, with the gallery and camera UI not being ‘as sophisticated’ as the Nseries devices he was used to, and was saddened by the lack of WiFi. The design takes a hit in his write up, as does the ‘cheap plastic housing’, but these concerns were soon put aside as Stylemeister learned to love FP2’s ‘full screen caller ID’. He also likes the fact that it takes a ‘really good photo’, and the firmware is ‘stable and fast’, coping with his extensive music and photo collection. The 6220 has caused his to eschew more fashionable devices such as the E66 and the N78 (which he says has a ‘horrible keypad’) and it’s his handset of choice (at least until the N96 becomes available).

Do you agree with Stylemeister’s thoughts? Have you got anything to say about the 6220 that he hasn’t covered? Any gripes / praise? Head over to his Live Journal page to have your say.

E65 full trial and review

May 27th, 2008

Erazer007 from his Cellular blog has received an E65 for review and to put it through its paces. Taking us through all the important aspects of the device, from build quality to display quality, everything you’ll need if you’re thinking about getting your hands on one of these is there.

His conclusions? Well, a pat on the back to Nokia goes out for creating a great device but, as with everything, there are down sides, stating that he was let down by the poor camera and music quality. There’s also a full gallery to have a look around the device with. Jump over to add your comments or ask questions about the review and device.

E65 camera – macro shots

May 21st, 2008

Christian Titze, writing on Symbian World, has found a video on that shows how to take a macro image using the camera of the E65.

Using a loupe (a small magnifying glass – think diamond dealer) pushed against the lens, the quality and sharpness, as well as the zoom, are enhanced – as Christian proves with his series of snaps. Admittedly it isn’t ‘the best solution’, but it is a creative solution to the problem of not having an in-built macro mode on the device.

Have you found another solution for taking close up images? Have you got any questions for Christian about how he married the loupe with the device? Why not head over and leave a comment or question?
