December 2nd, 2008

Ani from the S60 Blog has got his hands on an E66 White, and has shared a host of images of the device.

Nokia issued with a ‘to do’ list

November 24th, 2008

The Renegade Fanboy has come up with a wish list of improvements and innovations that he’s looking for Nokia to implement in the coming weeks and months.

Some of them are to do with devices and limiting the number of releases in each year. He reckons that there should be two N- and two Eseries per 12 months. He also implores the manufacturer to ensure that all devices are made released with USB charging. Many of the suggestions are quite enlightening, so head over and see what you think, then add any more you’re desperate to see.

Eseries helps you relieve boredom

November 21st, 2008

There’s a lot of love for the new Nokia Unloader site in the space, and people are getting rid of their dullest docs.

Rob posts a video on the Don’t Be Greedy site of his document getting the treatment, and reckons it could be a great way to get rid of some frustration as the presentation gets its millionth amend. Tom Langdon may have Awful Handwriting, but reckons the site is a ‘genius’ way of saying the E71 and E66 can handle loads of doc types. Finally the N95Users Forum has taken the idea on board, and thisis_Wayne thinks the ‘rawness’ of destroying docs in this way is a great idea (and loves the tree planting agenda too).

If you’ve not seen the site yet, head over to The Unloader and get rid of your unwanted documents.

Unload that boring doc

November 19th, 2008

Vaibhav has made mention on The Symbian Blog of the Nokia Unloader site, where the E66 and E71 are used to destroy your more….dull, boring, tedious, humdrum, monotonous, dreary, dry and lacklustre documents in entertaining and interesting ways.

Well worth sending that last budget spreadsheet to and seeing what happens, if only to (metaphorically) watch it disappear into the ether.

Better box experience please, Nokia – users speak

November 19th, 2008

Darla Mack, the Mobile Diva, has voiced an opinion that is held by other major players, that of the ‘out of box’ device experience not quite being what it should be (she refers to her N96, but it could apply across the board).

She lists a few things that could be done to help users - a welcome card urging new owners to register their device, which once done introduces new services such as Ovi to the user. She’d also like to see the manufacturer citing pages and forums giving users hints and tips on how to fine tune their device. Ricky Cadden has chipped in on the comment stream mentioning a simple ‘Quick S60’ guide for newcomers.

What would you like to see in a device’s box? Any ideas to ease the user experience? Head over and join in the comments.

Nokia dilemma – Eseries vs. Nseries

November 17th, 2008

A simple question from Aditya Singhvi. Which do you prefer – the series N or the series E?

He is interested in which types of people prefer which types of device and as well as simply answering the poll, he urges you to leave your reasons in the comments stream. By building up a picture of the usage of various devices, Aditya hopes to gain an insight into whether there is any crossover in user groups.

Head over, vote, leave your comments and let him know why you use what you use.

Water damage on your Nokia? Don’t panic

November 13th, 2008

Rafe unfortunately let his E71 slip into a ‘raging torrent’ recently, and as unhappy as this was, it gave him a chance to post on All About Symbian about how to minimise the chances of damage to the device.

The first things you’d do are the obvious ones such as remove the battery and all cards and external detachable components, but then there are some tips that will improve the chances of survival. Placing the device in a container of rice, in an airing cupboard, for three days will give the best hope, but if it has been in contact with a sticky or salty drink, rinsing it with clean water wouldn’t be the first thing you’d think to do, would it?

From the comment stream, plenty of others have had this experience, and if you’ve got any tips to share, head over and add to the list.

E66 white software

November 13th, 2008

Aaron has brought us his thoughts about the software customisations he’s seen on the E66 white over on Symbian Addict, and has packed it chock full of info.

Along with loads of screen shots, the post covers all the enhancements that Aaron found impressive on the device, including the automatic screen rotation and the ‘elegant’ breathing light. The dual home screen capability also gets the thumbs up – a ‘nifty’ feature he’d like on his N82.

What do you think of the software on the E66? Anything you’d like to see rolled out across the entire Nokia range? Head over and let Aaron know.

E71 and E66 firmware updates

November 11th, 2008

On the Symbian Guru pages we are brought news by The Guru himself that Nokia have announced firmware updates for both the E66 and the E71.

The E66 updates to v110.07.126 and the E71 to v110.07.127, and both include a new version of the Mail for Exchange app and Nokia Maps. In addition, the E71 has had some browser and camera viewfinder tweaks. Also, the Software Update for Windows has received ‘some attention’, which will need to be downloaded first.

How does the new firmware work for you? Let The Guru know if you find full changelogs.
