Firmware update for E66/E71

July 3rd, 2009

Now boasting v300.21.012, the Eseries devices have got a firmware update in the last 24 hours. Reported widely (as ever) across the space, among those to carry news of the update are All About Symbian’s Rafe, and Apoc over at Symbian Freak.

Changes noticed so far include updates to Mail For Exchange and Nokia Messaging, and ‘a number of widget-powered shortcuts to popular social media sites’. There’s a thread open on the SF Forum if you’ve noticed any other changes since you upgraded. *As ever, always back up before you upgrade.*

E66 - ‘Optimum functionality’

March 27th, 2009

While many have been putting the E75 through its paces, Seemab over at ProductUSP has been getting to grips with its very capable sibling, the E66.

Do you prefer the E66 to the E75? Head over for the full review and let Seemab know your views on the business slider.

E66 is hit and miss

March 5th, 2009

Palm Discovery’s May has been trying her hand at getting to grips with the E66, and in the first part of her review gives an overview of the device.

Admitting the T9 numeric keypad is a ‘very frustrating and tedious experience’ compared to QWERTY, she was a great fan of the auto rotation of the screen - ‘very handy’ for surfing the web. The device looks very ’sleek and compact’ and the slide out keypad worked for her. She includes a nice gallery and some hands on videos so you can have a better idea of what she is talking about.

What do you think to the device? Are you a QWERTY fan or T9 addict? Head over and let May know.

Have the E71 and E66 saved the Eseries?

March 4th, 2009

Dotsisx thinks they might have done, and lets us know why over at Symbian Guru.

She reckons the E71 and E66 have brought the Eseries to normal ‘average’ device users, mainly due to the fact that before these devices E’s were ‘bulky’, ’slow’ and lacking any multimedia feedback. Compared to the Nseries devices at this point, they were plain disappointing. Along come the E66 and E71 - ’small and drop dead gorgeous’ - and there was a shift.

E66 - ’smart sexy slider’

March 3rd, 2009

Obsidial has posted his thoughts on the E66, and his headline (ripped off above) says it all.

It starts well - he reckons the device is ‘one of the most solid’ he’s ever felt, the slider has ‘nice authority’ and the screen was readable in all conditions (though smaller than an N95). He says the battery life wasn’t as great as it could have been, but admitted he didn’t update the firmware, so this could have been an issue. He’d definitely recommend it, but isn’t sure who it is aimed at.

What do you reckon to the device? Can you see the allure? Head over and let Obsidial know.

Sage advice for your next device choice

February 27th, 2009

The About Cheap Mobiles team has posted an article containing some wise words about the ‘gadgetisation’ of mobile devices.

They warn that the inclusion of better cameras, GPS and FM transmitters can all lead to bulkier devices, and ‘eat up’ battery power. They suggest that before a device choice is made, you must consider what you wnat it to do, and select based on the model that covers your bases.

Do you think a device should have as many enhancements as possible, or are you in the simple handset camp? Head over and let others know.

Cj has posted what can only be described as a monster review of the E66 over on his pages.

Packed with top quality images and screen shots, he’s taken a look at everything the device has to offer, from the box, a full walk round and his own thoughts on the performance. For the T9 enthusiasts, he reckons the keyboard is ’spot-on’, includes a video of the menu transitions, and calls the E66 a ’sleek’ business device.

What do you think of what Cj has to say? Jump over and let him know if you agree.

E66 display is ‘crystal clear’

February 5th, 2009

So says JanLeow, who has written on his blog about life of the experience of getting hands on the device for the first time.

From the ‘really smooth’ slide to the ’sleek’ looks and nice feel in the hand, both Jan and his wife were smitten. He talks through all the salient features such as the accelerometer-based portrait/landscape screen switch and the ‘turn over to turn off’ function when the device rings in a meeting. Overall, he says he was ‘really pleased’ with the ‘easy to use’ handset.
