E71 RSS FeedE71 unboxing video
November 20th, 2008
Cj has posted a video of him unboxing his E71, maybe a little late, but serves as a good reminder for those caught up in the excitement of other device launches.
Mute except for the lovely sounds of the birds, the video shows the device from every angle and the full box contents.
What do you want to see Cj do with the device next? Any tests you’d like to see? Leave him a comment, he may just do them.

Best IM client for the E71?
November 20th, 2008
Dotsisx has taken her E71 (that ‘screams‘ instant messaging) and installed a bunch of clients, she reports her findings on the Symbian Guru pages.
There were two that stood out for her – Nimbuzz and Windows Live Messenger – and she reckons they both cut the mustard. WLM has an interface that is clean and ‘SO nice’ and has a lot of usability like you’d expect. Nimbuzz also has an interface that can be customised, and is free – a point she stresses a fair bit (as WLM is not).
Which IM client do you have on your E71? What are your thoughts on paying for a service? Get over to the site and give Dotsisx your musings.

Unload that boring doc
November 19th, 2008
Vaibhav has made mention on The Symbian Blog of the Nokia Unloader site, where the E66 and E71 are used to destroy your more….dull, boring, tedious, humdrum, monotonous, dreary, dry and lacklustre documents in entertaining and interesting ways.
Well worth sending that last budget spreadsheet to and seeing what happens, if only to (metaphorically) watch it disappear into the ether.

Better box experience please, Nokia – users speak
November 19th, 2008
Darla Mack, the Mobile Diva, has voiced an opinion that is held by other major players, that of the ‘out of box’ device experience not quite being what it should be (she refers to her N96, but it could apply across the board).
She lists a few things that could be done to help users - a welcome card urging new owners to register their device, which once done introduces new services such as Ovi to the user. She’d also like to see the manufacturer citing pages and forums giving users hints and tips on how to fine tune their device. Ricky Cadden has chipped in on the comment stream mentioning a simple ‘Quick S60’ guide for newcomers.
What would you like to see in a device’s box? Any ideas to ease the user experience? Head over and join in the comments.

E71 sleek, sexy and messaging-centric
November 19th, 2008
Maria Mihale has produced a lengthy and detailed look at the E71 over at Camera Phones Plaza, which gives all the information about the device that a user looking to get their hands on it would need.
She says that the device is ‘sleeker and sexier’ than the E61i, and quotes the dimensions to prove it. The screen gets a mention as being a touch on the small side, but is bright and the ‘light sensing technology’ ensures images look ‘as sharp as possible’. Overall, Maria describes the device as a ‘messaging-centric smartphone’, which pretty much sums it up.
Do you agree with her conclusions? Are there any more details you’d like? Jump over and let Maria know.

Thoughts on the E71
November 18th, 2008
Lee Sze Yong has posted on his offthebeatenpath pages about the E71 and reckons it is fit for purpose – kind of.
The limitations (or rather, what people might want in a device) of the E71 – a better camera, a touchscreen, a scroll wheel - are in Lee’s opinion a matter of ‘market segmentation’ rather than technical limitations. He reckons the device has ‘every connectivity option covered’, a usable keyboard and some great software.
What do you think to the E71? Is Lee accurate with his conclusions? Leave him a comment, share your own opinion and see if others agree.

E71 reviewed in words and video
November 18th, 2008
Chris Kuzma has taken his thoughts on the E71 and relayed them to his readers through two different media.
His blog post is extensive and contains many images of the device and covers every aspect of the handset. He expresses an opinion about everything from the keyboard (‘great’) to the ‘seamless design’ and excellent battery life. The video is well worth a watch if you want to see the device in the hand and hear some more thoughts.
Having read and watched, what do you think of the device? Is there anything you need more info on? Head over and leave Chris your comments.

Making the E71 more efficient
November 17th, 2008
An interesting article has popped up on Symbian Guru, posted by Dotsisx, in which she has discovered a way to increase the productivity of her E71.
By assigning short cuts to her keyboard using Cute Keys, she managed to make sure that menus could be bypassed and tasks started with a simple combination of button presses. She shares some of her short cuts, and also her excitement at the fact that the app will work ‘ANYWHERE!’
Have you used Cute Keys to make your life easier? Do you want to share your shortcuts? Head over and let Dotsisx know.

Nokia dilemma – Eseries vs. Nseries
November 17th, 2008
A simple question from Aditya Singhvi. Which do you prefer – the series N or the series E?
He is interested in which types of people prefer which types of device and as well as simply answering the poll, he urges you to leave your reasons in the comments stream. By building up a picture of the usage of various devices, Aditya hopes to gain an insight into whether there is any crossover in user groups.
Head over, vote, leave your comments and let him know why you use what you use.

‘Dual personality’ E71
November 14th, 2008
Glenn Letham has written about the E71 on the LBSZone pages and reckons the device can suit both business and personal user alike.
He says lists amongst his ten favourite things about the device the ‘comfortable’ keyboard, the large screen and the ‘hot’ looks. He also includes a video of him listening to an email, his Flickr set of images of and taken with the device, and a gaming demo. There is lots of info on the device and plenty of opinion, so if you’re thinking of getting your hands on one, this really is a good place to start reading.
What do you think of what Glenn has to say? Are you tempted by the E71? Head over and let him know.
