Innovations RSS FeedNokia N97 introduced - ‘5800 on steroids’
December 2nd, 2008
Launched in the last few minutes at Nokia World, the Nokia N97 pulls together all the features that have been asked for by voices in the space.
With a large (640×360 pixel, 16 million color) touchscreen that has tactile feedback, a slide out QWERTY keyboard and a screen that tilts to 35 degrees (using a clicking hinge), the N97 pulls together aspects of other devices in Nokia’s range. The device also contains a high quality built in Carl Zeiss camera, 30 fps DVD quality video, A-GPS and accelerometer much as you would expect from a high end device, but will also contain 64 GB 32GB of memory with 16GB card slot .
Already out in the space, Eric Zeman from PhoneScoop has some images of the device, which looks like a prototype (the handset presented was silver in color, but this version is black). He shares his hands on thoughts (calling it the ‘5800 on steroids’), so head over and have a look, ask any questions you might have, and leave your thoughts.

Nokia BH-604 headset saves the day (well, night)
September 15th, 2008
Bluetooth headphones aren’t just for using with your mobile device. They can even be hooked up to your desktop computer, assuming you have a bluetooth chip in there or a dongle to hand.
Mark Guim from The Nokia Blog thanked his iMac for having such connectivity the other night when he managed to connect his BH-604 bluetooth headphones to watch a DVD while his better half got some shut-eye free of any disturbing noise. There is a run-through of the process for anyone intrested complete with images to get you on your way.
Do you use a Nokia headset for listening to audio from something other than your Nokia device? Jump over to leave a comment for Mark.

N810 becomes car media center
July 7th, 2008
Internet Tablet Talk forums member Cruelkix has taken his N810 and customised it in a way never before seen.
Involving lots of moulding and shaping, as well a mysterious (to us) substance called ‘bondo’, the crazy fool has managed to incorporate the device where his car stereo used to be. The feedback he’s getting suggests that fellow forum members are in awe of his genius. Allthenameswereout says that it is ‘now much more than a car radio! It’s also a navigation system, browser, e-mail client, and so much more’. Callanish ‘salutes’ his dedication and Faz says the N810 ‘looks very happy indeed’ in its new home.
Is this best/craziest mod you’ve ever seen? Got any questions about the practicalities? Get involved in the forum thread and tell Cruelkix what you think.

Maps and Photographs: a match made in Nokia heaven
May 5th, 2008
Devin Balentina of The Nokia Guide spent 2 weeks earlier in the year, trekking across the planet as part of The Urbanista Diaries. During this time his route was charted on a widget that also displayed the photos he took along the way
All fun and games, no?! Well, if you like the idea you can now get your hands on your very own widget to keep the world updated with where you are, and what you’ve been taking pictures of. Devin brings us this news himself, and despite the shortcomings in supporting popular platforms (including Wordpress, Typepad and MySpace), he likes the way it shows the direction location-aware apps are headed (if you’ll excuse the pun!)
Jump over to read more and see the widget in action on Devin’s page.

N95 gets itself a telescope…
April 11th, 2008
big_fella_andy over on the N95 User forums has posted his review of a telescope zoom for his N95.
This neat piece of kit gets you closer to the action with your Nseries device, and andy is certainly a bit of fan giving it 8/10 in his review. He likes the ease of use that the telescope offers and thinks that while the quality may deprecate a little, it isn’t anything drastic. He’s even put together some video footage to show off the N95’s video capture with and without the telescope.

Express yourself with your Nseries
March 31st, 2008
Ray over at Yet Another Symbian Blog has put the N82’s flash to the test against the N95’s - in pitch blackness! Jump over to check out the results, especially if you are after another example of just how different the flash solutions on each device are.
If you like your pictures with a bit more color however, and you like to be at the cutting edge of technology check out James Burland’s article on ‘pop color’ over at Nokia Creative. James is always keen to find new ways to make the best of photos shot on his Nseries devices and this example comes courtesy of the new, web-based, Photoshop Express. There’s a video for you to check out and hopefully inspire you to take your Nseries further…

How does the N82’s GPS perform..? On a plane?!
March 17th, 2008
Long plane flights can get a little boring, so what do you do? If you have your N82 on your person you have plenty of options. Play the odd game, listen to some music, browse your recently taken holiday snaps. Or, of course, you could play with the GPS feature…
This is exactly what Amir from Phone Rush decided to do on his flight back home to LA from Barcelona. He explains, that the main reason for doing this was because it is cool (!), but notes that it was interesting to see how far it was back to LA and was very impressed with how well the N82 kept a lock.
Jump over to check out a video of the whole process and leave your comments. Have your tried it?!

Stand up for the N95
March 8th, 2008
So, you’ve got an N95 only to see the N96 released with one very useful addition - a kick stand. This is something that a number of N95 users would probably find useful, especially for watching videos.
Over on the Symbian Freak forums, Abel Gany has had a flash of inspiration however, and noted how you can use the humble paper-clip as a stand for your beloved device! The idea has also been covered on the main site, with plenty of images.

Nokia N82 takes on… The English Channel
February 20th, 2008
James Burland at Nokia Creative has taken the N82 and set it in competition with… The English Channel.
Using a specially adapted plastic bag, James has managed to film from beneath the waves (well, from the fringes of the beach) without any harm coming to the N82! This just goes to show how versatile the device is, and what you can achieve if you push it to the limit.
Notable also, is James’ use of Ovi Share to publish the video alongside Youtube as he notes that Ovi produces a better quality video experience.

Testdrive of Wavelog on the N95
February 15th, 2008
Jan at the Nokia N95 Blog has tested out Wavelog, the Wordpress (and Drupal) blogging software for S60 devices.
The post kicks off with some text added directly from the app, so you can see exactly how it turns out on the page. Following this Jan looks at the ease of set up, and the practical use which he finds has a lot of potential, though the inability to add categories or tags to posts is a little limiting. Still, he does find it a good mobile option in comparison to using a plug-in server side that helps when using a mobile browser.
There are also some screen-shots from the N95 to give you an idea of how the app functions. Jump over if you have any questions or comments.
