October 17th, 2008

Therevivedone has posted a video on YouTube demonstrating the live streaming mobile platform Qik on his N95.

After some initial problems trying to download the app, Thereivedone gets to showcase Qik’s menu features including: stream info, muting and setting your vids to private or public. He also goes into detail on the settings options but runs into a few issues - Qik is new relatively new technology after all! Definitely a good starting point for anyone wanting to give it a go.

Motion capture on the N95?

July 21st, 2008

It’s felt by many that the video camera on the N95 is a very decent piece of kit considering it’s bundled inside a mobile device. Of course, it’s fine for what it does, but it couldn’t say, help you recreate the effects showcased in 2005’s King Kong… could it?

Wired’s Jose Fermoso has picked up on a very neat application that allows the N95 to be used for motion-capture of the type more often seen on the big screen. Forget Andy Serkis filling the very large boots of a giant gorilla, now you can be your own ape (or dinosaur, or aardvark if that’s what turns you on) with the tech you carry in your pocket every day.

June 27th, 2008

We’re big fans of Innovative uses for Nokia devices round here, which is why we love it when James Burland dusts down his wet suit…

With the aid of nothing more than a plastic bag and nerves of steel James, of Nokia Creative, has filmed some underwater antics proving the N95 really can do quite a lot of things you wouldn’t expect!

Have you ever taken your Nokia swimming? Jump over to leave James a comment.

Video gets interesting on Nseries

May 6th, 2008

The video recording capabilities on Nseries devices are put to great use by a lot of people. The N95 and N82 in particular come out of pockets at the most varied of moments to capture footage for posterity.

One problem faced by all however is the issue of ambient noise. There have been solutions around this issue in the past (such as using a bluetooth headset as a radio mic) but it’s left up to shelbinator over on his blog to take whats gone before and put together a great guide on adding a wired mic to the N95 to beef up your audio quality should you find yourself in a sonically hostile environment.

Jump over to see the full how-to along with video walkthrough and leave any comments you may have.

Monitor your home with the help of an Nseries Internet Tablet

March 31st, 2008

If your house is full of all sorts of expensive gadgetry, you may want to consider keeping an eye on everything.

Devin Balentina over at The Nokia Guide has been looking at doing just that, and he’s found that an N800 could be a very useful part of the set up.

Having got his hands on a wireless home monitoring camera he noted that it could stream live video to just about any browser. This of course includes the browser on the N800, and indeed N810 (Devin did test the system with his N95 8GB though could not get the video up and running).

There are some images and a video in the article that give a run down of the system in use, so jump over to have a look at Devin’s set-up and ask any questions.

If that wasn’t enough video tomfoolery, check out the Pangea Day project over on Share on Ovi to make use of your Nseries in inspiring and creative ways…

How does the N82’s GPS perform..? On a plane?!

March 17th, 2008

Long plane flights can get a little boring, so what do you do? If you have your N82 on your person you have plenty of options. Play the odd game, listen to some music, browse your recently taken holiday snaps. Or, of course, you could play with the GPS feature…

This is exactly what Amir from Phone Rush decided to do on his flight back home to LA from Barcelona. He explains, that the main reason for doing this was because it is cool (!), but notes that it was interesting to see how far it was back to LA and was very impressed with how well the N82 kept a lock.

Jump over to check out a video of the whole process and leave your comments. Have your tried it?!
