N78 RSS FeedN78 features put to the test
July 4th, 2008
The N78 is still out and about gathering reviews from around the space.
p@sco at jaspp.net has been comparing the N78’s camera to that on the N95 8GB and has published a whole selection of photos taken in different situations to highlight the differences.
Elsewhere, tashedwards89 of Talk About Nseries has been exploring that keypad on the N78, to give an in depth view of how it feels. Tash reckons you can quickly get used to the keypad over a couple of days, and sees the general layout of all keys (including D-Pad etc) as being nicely spaced.
What do you think of the N78’s features? Jump through the links above to leave your comments.

N78 does a ‘great job’
July 3rd, 2008
Over at World of Nokia, Dan Carter has been playing with an N78 and brings us his thoughts on the device in a post that covers just about everything.
Dan starts with the battery, saying that despite bad reports on other Nokia devices, the N78 gave him ‘2-3 days with quite a lot of use’, including the camera and HSDPA. He bemoans the 3.2MP camera with no xenon flash, asking Nokia why they didn’t throw a 5MP unit at this device. He loved the geo-tagging of photos with Ovi, and was a big fan of the built-in GPS (his ‘favorite part’ of the device). Giving the device 4/5 rating, Dan reckons it is perfect for N73 users looking for an upgrade, or for anyone not interested in a 5MP camera.
Have you had a look at the N78? Do you agree with Dan’s comments? What would you do to improve the device, if anything? Get yourself over to his site and let him know what you think.

N78 battery life – a test
July 2nd, 2008
Mike from Symbian Addict has done a test to see just how long the battery on an N78 will go for.
For this test he compared it to an N73, both fully charged, and did a continuous music play to see how many hours each would last. Starting at 10.45 am, the N73 ‘crapped out’ at 7.25 in the evening and the N78 was ‘still kicking’ at 11.05pm. He reckons this was a ‘nice improvement’, but wondered what has happened to the 24 hour music playback time promised by Nokia. This test proves that the battery has improved (see Mike’s first battery test for what a full charge can deliver through normal usage), but is it the battery Nokia users demanded?
What are your thoughts on the subject? Would you be happy with a slightly larger device that housed a better battery? Head over to Mike’s site and let him know.
Mike’s also covered this video on the Nokia N82 Blog (his other home!) and thinks it’s great. Is this your idea of how the N82 was born?

T9nav for S60 in review, plus Shozu embraces Ovi
June 27th, 2008
Zach on Symbian in Motion is a big fan of SkyeQuiKey, the app for controlling and launching a number of items by typing direct from your Active Standby screen. He has however happened upon a competitor in this arena in the form of T9nav.
Zach pitches T9nav against the benchmarks set by SkyeQuiKey and while it does the job, it doesn’t live up to his expectations. Jump over for Zach’s full review.
In other application news, Mobile Diva Darla Mack has brought the news that Share on Ovi has now been integrated into Shozu (along with 8 other services, bringing the total to 46!). Jump over for the full article.

N78 US release and firmware update.
June 26th, 2008
Talk of the town at the moment, is the N78 with its US release and over the air firmware update to version 11.043.
The firmware update is available over the air only, and the improvements brought by the change, as well as details on how to upgrade, have been posted by Mobile Diva Darla Mack as well as Kim Poh Liaw over on Slashphone.
The news of the US release, and of course US 3G capabilities, for the N78 has been picked up by Boy Genius Report with a nice hands on of the device, as well as Arnold Zafra on Gadgetell who thinks that the N78 is a worthy addition to the market, but may be best suited to the Nokia fans out there.

Bh-703 headset comes up trumps
June 23rd, 2008
Alex Bhaswara at Nokia Fanboy has hooked himself into the BH-703 headset, and been very pleased with what he’s found.
Comparing the headset to his own BH-208 he found every aspect improved with the great design and longer talk-time being particular advantages. On top of this, Alex was very taken with the DSP (digital signal processing) noice cancellation technology which made using the headset while cycling a much more pleasant experience.

N78, E66 and E71 under the microscope
June 23rd, 2008
Dotsisx over at Symbian Guru has been hard at work bringing a veritable smorgasbord of reviews for all you Nokia fans out there.
The N78, E66 and E71 all get the once over with pictures, thoughts and general comments from Dotsisx from hands on time with the devices. S60 3rd edition FP2 is the ace up N78’s sleeve while the E66 comes out as ’sexy and solid’ and the E71 blows Dotsisx with its sheer size - or rather lack of it!

The Nseries/Eseries conundrum
June 18th, 2008
Vaibhav Sharma over on The Symbian Blog has been wondering whether the lack of an Nseries QWERTY device, and the release of the E71 with all its updates, means that potential users might be moved to check it out over an Nseries offering?
Vaibhav thinks that while Eseries and Neries may be moving closer together, the divide is still there and features such as the 2.5mm headset jack make this clear. However, his question is where the line should be drawn, and where compromises should be made? In his opinion, he wants to at least see moves to make the core user experience of each device comparable.
