November 28th, 2008

Acervoyage brings us her thoughts on the N78 and reckons the feature list will ‘impress’.

The keypad, whilst looking ‘semi-flat’ and ‘too small’ at first soon becomes ‘friendlier’ than it appears. She lists some of the features that she thinks will make people sit up and pay attention, including the 2.4” screen, 3.2MP Carl Zeiss camera and the expandable memory.

Do you agree with her? Does the feature list impress you? Jump over and let her know.

N78 is a ‘worthwhile addition’

November 27th, 2008

On the Insanity vs. Stupidity pages, aDuKa has spent some time with the N78 and reckons it deserves its place in the Nseries line up.

Whilst there are a few ‘design flaws’ and the keypad is ‘one of Nokia’s stranger ones’, his overall verdict is positive. He thinks it has good specs, the UI is ‘better, quicker’ than before and the 3.2MP camera is ‘capable’.

Has the N78 made it into your hands yet? What do you think? Leave aDuKa a comment with your opinions.

Nokia issued with a ‘to do’ list

November 24th, 2008

The Renegade Fanboy has come up with a wish list of improvements and innovations that he’s looking for Nokia to implement in the coming weeks and months.

Some of them are to do with devices and limiting the number of releases in each year. He reckons that there should be two N- and two Eseries per 12 months. He also implores the manufacturer to ensure that all devices are made released with USB charging. Many of the suggestions are quite enlightening, so head over and see what you think, then add any more you’re desperate to see.

N78 is a ‘solid device’

November 20th, 2008

Driving from New York to Las Vegas, Daniel Silver needed a device to see him through, and that device was the N78.

The FM transmitter is his favourite feature, giving him coverage on his journey, and he was a fan of the battery, lasting him all day with quite heavy usage. He also makes mention of the camera and flash (which works well in the day and at night) and the ‘huge’ difference the Carl Zeiss optics make.

Is the N78 the solid device Daniel thinks it is? What are your experiences using it? Jump across and tell him.

Better box experience please, Nokia – users speak

November 19th, 2008

Darla Mack, the Mobile Diva, has voiced an opinion that is held by other major players, that of the ‘out of box’ device experience not quite being what it should be (she refers to her N96, but it could apply across the board).

She lists a few things that could be done to help users - a welcome card urging new owners to register their device, which once done introduces new services such as Ovi to the user. She’d also like to see the manufacturer citing pages and forums giving users hints and tips on how to fine tune their device. Ricky Cadden has chipped in on the comment stream mentioning a simple ‘Quick S60’ guide for newcomers.

What would you like to see in a device’s box? Any ideas to ease the user experience? Head over and join in the comments.

Water damage on your Nokia? Don’t panic

November 13th, 2008

Rafe unfortunately let his E71 slip into a ‘raging torrent’ recently, and as unhappy as this was, it gave him a chance to post on All About Symbian about how to minimise the chances of damage to the device.

The first things you’d do are the obvious ones such as remove the battery and all cards and external detachable components, but then there are some tips that will improve the chances of survival. Placing the device in a container of rice, in an airing cupboard, for three days will give the best hope, but if it has been in contact with a sticky or salty drink, rinsing it with clean water wouldn’t be the first thing you’d think to do, would it?

From the comment stream, plenty of others have had this experience, and if you’ve got any tips to share, head over and add to the list.

Nokia BH-503 headset on show

November 7th, 2008

Over on Comeswithmusic.org - a site dedicated to news on Nokia’s ‘all you can eat’ music service - they’ve posted a quick review of the BH-503 bluetooth headset.

Overall it’s a mixed review with a thumbs up for ease of pairing the headset with a device, but not so much love for the overall sound quality. Further, while the buttons on the side of the headset are a nice addition for ease of use, they aren’t hugely practical as you can’t see them while they are on the side of your head.

What are your thoughts? Are you a BH-503 owner? Jump over to leave your comments.
