Get yourself (and your Nseries) connected

February 29th, 2008

A couple of interesting posts here looking at connecting your Nseries device with the outside world.

First up, Symbian Guru Ricky Cadden has dedicated episode 28 of Driving With The Guru to bluetooth connections, and how to use them to sync your Nseries device with your computer and make use of bluetooth headsets, thus making it as useful as possible! Ricky also looks at Canola 2, the very swish media player for the N800 and N810.

If that wasn’t enough, Pseudofinn at Nokia Users has brought an intriguing nugget, with the news that Nokia users can get free Wifi access through the Boingo network for the month of March. Jump over to read more…

N-Gage First Access video and review

February 25th, 2008

neoncherry at The Unofficial Nokia Gaming Blog has posted a video and review of the N-Gage First Access release on the N81.

The review kicks off with a quick video showing the N-Gage interface as it appears on the N81 which should give you a nice idea of what to expect, if you don’t know already. neoncherry follows this with a look at what is great, and what is not so great about N-Gage. Thumbs up go to free demos of games and the fact you can rotate the games to play in any orientation of the screen. Thumbs down are generally for bugs, which neoncherry concedes is part and parcel of any beta trial. Nevertheless, bugs with connecting to the store via wifi and the speed of the store itself are annoying.

Jump over to see what else neoncherry has to say about the N-Gage release and leave any comments of your own.

Symbian Guru Ricky Cadden has posted episode 23 of ‘Driving With The Guru’, his regular video podcast.

In this episode, Ricky runs through his views on the N-Gage release as well as reviewing the Nokia BH-501 bluetooth headphones, which he thinks are certainly worth a look if you’re after comfortable, lightweight headphones while you’re out and about. On top of this, is the N810 with which he demonstrates how he has the internet tablet mounted in his car. He also mentions that he loves the keyboard on the device, although he isn’t keen on the GPS system at all.

N81 make star appearance

December 10th, 2007

The N81 has become a star in it’s own right, making no small appearance in Alicia Keys’ latest music video.

Mark Guim at The Nokia Blog thanks an eagle eyed friend who spied the Nseries device taking a good amount of screen real-estate in the middle of the video.

Mark isn’t sure that this is the best product placement for the N81 however, given the N95 is undoubtedly a better suited device for the video making and viewing that is used for.

Youtube on your S60 device

December 7th, 2007

A regular topic across the forums, is how users can view Youtube videos on their S60 device. Until now, the usual choice has been a portal like m.vtap.com, but no longer, as new options are afoot…

Vaibhav Sharma at The Symbian Blog has put together a guide on how to download Youtube videos to your device. There’s a bit of work involved, but it is a free solution and just might work for you.

And, in a neat coincidence, Devin Ballentina of The Nokia Guide has an alternative method for those times you have access to the extra processing power of a PC.

What do you think of these techniques? Would you use them? Jump over and leave a comment for Vaibhav here or Devin here.
