September 4th, 2008
On thoughtfix’s TabletBlog, he references an Internet Tablet Talk thread of images of NITs in interesting places.
The post includes an image of a domed church in Moscow in the early spring, and the (admittedly dated) thread on the forum has images from desks to cars to lakes and one on a beach perilously close to the water. The uses of the device are legion – we have bedside clocks, in car navigation, mixing desks and a high number of keyboard attachments.
If you have anything to say, or an image to add to the thread, just jump over. If there’s anything you want to know about NITs, ITT is a great place to start and ask questions to explore your tablet.

The future of internet tablets?
August 29th, 2008
ThoughtFix has posted on his TabletBlog about the mythical new Ntropic software for Nokia Internet Tablets.
In Thoughtfix’s dream world, this software allows NITs and Nseries devices to sync all their content perfectly, has enhanced mapping features with ‘location awareness’ and has a lightweight photo editor with automatic upload to photosharing sites. Pie in the sky? Yes. But Thoughtfix thinks this would ‘raise the bar’ and make other companies think harder about their products.
So what would you like to see in a new tablet update? Can you better these ideas? Jump in and let Thoughtfix know what you think.

Best video player for S60?
August 27th, 2008
Scott Janousek, posting on his blog, has brought his readers a digest of some of the best S60 flash video players (rather than just video file players like DivX) on the market.
EmTube gets a mention, along with screen shots and the assertion that it is Scott’s favourite – he likes the UI and says it is a ‘nice native S60’ player. MobiTubia also gets the thumbs up for being ‘simple but effective’, but FLVPlayer didn’t seem to work for him. He mentions a few other options, including an appeal to his readers asking if they have developed a video player of their own.
Can you help Scott in his appeal? Which video player is your favourite? Jump in and have your say.

Keep track of your device with Phonelocator
August 22nd, 2008
Rafe from All About Symbian and Apoc from Symbian Freak have both reported on the new Phonelocator app that helps you geo-track your device.
Apoc writes that the ‘realtime GPS tracking’ app lets you use maps to see where your device is that very moment, and also allow others to know. Rafe has done a real life test (by attaching a device to his dog), but hasn’t published the results as they weren’t terribly good. He does include some screen shots of the app, though, which help show how it works.
Is this something you’d download to your device? What uses can you see for this? Head over and let Rafe know, or join in the SF forum thread.

More free apps sites
August 22nd, 2008
Having seen yesterday’s post on where to find the best free apps, gerrymoth - the Nokia Addict – has posted his own directory.
Separated neatly into categories by producer of the app, gerrymoth breaks down the list into four easy sections. Starting with Nokia-produced content, he has all the usual suspects from Chat to Maps, before moving on to externally sourced apps. There’s the Epocware set (Handy Taskman and Handy Converter included) and Google’s ‘Gaggle’ (Maps and Mail), followed by a whole host of others. All the apps you read about are listed, and this is a perfect place to start for the new user looking to pimp their device.
Are you a newbie just starting out? How is this list for you? Power users, anything that should be added? Jump over and let gerrymoth know what you think.

New Nokia enhanced calculator – forum thoughts
August 21st, 2008
Following on from the recent announcement of Nokia’s enhanced calculator, the IPMart forum has a large thread discussing its pros and cons.
There’s a lot of thanks given to original poster cred, with the discussion then turning to its merits. [Master] says that it is better than the pre-installed Nokia calculator, but bchliu reckons it is a ‘rip-off’ of the Calcium app many have on their devices. hamzaB reports that there is already an update, probably just to iron out any bugs that may have crept into the original.
Have you tried this calculator yet? Is it better for you than others? Join in the forum discussion and let other know your thoughts.

Find the best free apps for your Nokia
August 21st, 2008
Joshua from gHacks.net has posted a very handy list of all the main places to go to grab yourself the best free apps for your Nokia.
Basically a collection of forums and sites, Joshua explains what can be found at each, and how much digging will have to be done to find the perfect app. Starting with Mosh, Nokia’s ‘portal for free apps, games, audio and images’, he goes on to take in many of the sites that will be well known to power users, but might well be undiscovered by those new to Symbian. A must-read for anyone looking to get the best out of their device.
Are there any venues you can add to the list? Where do you hang out to find your apps? Head over and let Joshua know what you think
While you’re searching for info, you may also want to check out Wapedia, as covered by Dotsisx, which helps her check the world’s collective knowledge (well, Wikipedia) on the S60 browser on Nokia devices.
Have you discovered this service yet? How has it worked for you? Head over and let Dotsisx know.

Nokia SU-8W Bluetooth keyboard
August 20th, 2008
Over on her Nokia Duck site, neoncherry has produced another of her instructional videos, this time showing the SU-8W Bluetooth keyboard in all its glory.
In the accompanying article, she details the practicalities of using the keyboard, saying it has a range of 10 meters, and will last up to 50 hours with the 2 AAA batteries. She reports that it pairs easily with Nokia devices, but it isn’t so easy to pair with their tablets. That said, it’s almost a full size keyboard that folds away into a size that will fit into a purse or ‘suit pocket’.
Have you used the SU-8W Bluetooth keyboard? How was it for you? Head over to neoncherry’s site and let her know.

What would you change on the N810?
August 20th, 2008
Thoughtfix from TabletBlog has posted asking his readers what, if anything, they would like to see altered in the next generation of the N810.
His wish list includes a better camera (for producing decent content on the move), a better maps function (‘on a par with the iPhone’s local search’) and a partnership to get a decent on-demand movie system. The suggestions from readers are legion, and include; two externally accessible memory card slots, waterproofing against heavy rain, more keys without popping out the keyboard, longer battery life and a lower price point.
Having had a look at what others have suggested, is there anything you can add? How would you design your ultimate tablet? Jump over and join in the comment stream.

Nokia release Enhanced Calculator
August 20th, 2008
At All About Symbian, Rafe has brought us news that Nokia Beta Labs has introduced a calculator ‘borrowed’ from S40.
The enhanced calculator, as the name suggests, goes beyond the standard plus and minus, encompassing as it does a scientific mode and one that helps work out loan calculations. It differs in lots of ways from both the original S60 calculator and much favored Calcium, being written in Java for one. This has caused commenters such as shoobe01 to mention they prefer a native application, but what are your views? Will you be ditching whatever you use now in favour of this? Head over and join the comment stream.
