N82 RSS FeedMotion capture on the N95?
July 21st, 2008
It’s felt by many that the video camera on the N95 is a very decent piece of kit considering it’s bundled inside a mobile device. Of course, it’s fine for what it does, but it couldn’t say, help you recreate the effects showcased in 2005’s King Kong… could it?
Wired’s Jose Fermoso has picked up on a very neat application that allows the N95 to be used for motion-capture of the type more often seen on the big screen. Forget Andy Serkis filling the very large boots of a giant gorilla, now you can be your own ape (or dinosaur, or aardvark if that’s what turns you on) with the tech you carry in your pocket every day.

N82 audio quality on video recordings
June 26th, 2008
Writing over on Migs Mobile Network, Migs has taken a look at the audio recorded by the N82 when one takes a video.
Applauding the sensitivity of the N82’s mic, Migs says that this can result in better sounding videos, however, only in certain conditions. When recording a concert for example, where the noise levels will be much higher, he offers a tip of lowering the audio recording volume to ensure you do not get too much distortion. One of Migs’ other tips is to actually use the video recorder to record sound rather than the voice recorder as you’ll find you get a much better output.

May 7th, 2008
A number of people regularly use their mobile device as a portable video player, either for short clips or even whole movies. How best to play those videos however, is a point of eternal debate.
Menneisyys over on Symbian Freak has taken the opportunity of the update to DivX’s mobile player to pit it against the much loved CorePlayer and see if it has made up any ground on its competitor. The short answer - it hasn’t, but jump over for the full rundown and details on what both apps are capable of.

Video gets interesting on Nseries
May 6th, 2008
The video recording capabilities on Nseries devices are put to great use by a lot of people. The N95 and N82 in particular come out of pockets at the most varied of moments to capture footage for posterity.
One problem faced by all however is the issue of ambient noise. There have been solutions around this issue in the past (such as using a bluetooth headset as a radio mic) but it’s left up to shelbinator over on his blog to take whats gone before and put together a great guide on adding a wired mic to the N95 to beef up your audio quality should you find yourself in a sonically hostile environment.

Smartphone Show tests the N95 and N82 cameras against the best
May 4th, 2008
Another episode of Steve Litchfield’s Smartphone Show brings a test of the best 5MP camera smartphones on the market.
The N95 classic and N82 take on the Sony Ericsson K850i and LG viewty over a series of tests. The Nseries devices trump the competition on colour quality, while the issue of detail is much more of a mixed bag over the tests. Nokia’s camera darlings do come out on top, but to find out which one, well, you’ll just have to take a look!

Video recording comparison (audio) of Nseries devices
April 8th, 2008
Having a camera on your mobile device is par for the course these days, and a lot of us snap away all day long because, well, we can! Of course, sometimes we also take video with our devices but the quality, especially in the sound department, isn’t always up to scratch compared to stand-alone alternatives. Or is it? Steve Litchfield tries to find out…
Writing on All About Symbian, Steve compares the N82 and N95 with the N93 and E61i in a nice simple video, that gives a great comparison of their relative merits. Jump over to read Steve’s full thoughts and leave your comments.

The Guru’s ‘Flixwagon’ wedding explained
April 7th, 2008
For the uninitiated, a ‘Flixwagon’ wedding is nothing like a shotgun wedding. Instead, it is the nuptial innovation of the century, as Symbian Guru Ricky Cadden used the popular video-streaming service to broadcast his wedding live to the world!
Using 4 N82’s in total, alongside a Clearwire modem and the Flixwagon software, Ricky was able to notch up well over 9,000 views on his big day and despite having plenty of other things on his mind, he found the whole experience fairly straightforward and stress free!
Jump over to have a look at the video taken on the day, and see how the N82 and Flixwagon coped with such an involved set-up.

N82 – low light camera test
April 3rd, 2008
Neil over at iGadget Life brings us news of a cracking evening spent in the company of a lovely N82, and some even lovelier celebs. With snaps and videos from the Figures of Speech Gala Dinner, he really gave the xenon flash a workout.
It’s clear that the N82 performs exceptionally well in low light conditions with pics that would make any pap proud (the one of Elle McPherson is a beaut). The video capabilities were tested too and stood up to the challenge well. Go along and watch an entertaining 5 minutes from Harry Enfield and see the quality for yourself.
Have you tested the N82 in low light? Jump over and share your thoughts.
