N85 review? Look no further

December 1st, 2008

Sometimes we claim on these pages that someone has produced the most comprehensive review of a device, but this time Sergejs Cuhrajs has possibly set the bar a little higher.

In his 6 page look at the N85 on Symbian Freak (a review born from a month of testing) he brings readers opinions on every aspect of the device, and whilst there are a few minor niggles, the overall sentiment is very positive. He says it does its job ‘well’, but isn’t mind-blowing.

Definitely one to settle down with a hot drink to read, do you agree with what Sergejs concludes? Jump into the SF forum thread to air your views.

Launch of Nokia viNe

November 26th, 2008

The Guru reports that Nokia viNe has launched, and brings us his thoughts on the ‘prettier’ version of Sportstracker. He lists the devices that the service is available on, and comments that the fact it is not available on the N95 or the E66 is a strange one. Ani from the S60 blog also reports on the release and reckons that it is a viable alternative to a PC for sharing one’s life. He reckons it’s a ‘good job’ by Nokia and includes some screen shots of the website.

Have you used viNe yet? Do you think it’s a good way of letting others know what you’ve been up to? Jump through the links above to share your thoughts.

Is the N85 the N96’s little brother?

November 26th, 2008

Damien McFerran has posted on the Pocket Gamer site about the N85, and reckons it is a smaller, better version of its ‘sibling’.

He says the two devices bear a ‘shocking resemblance’ to each other, and an ill-informed user might find it hard to distinguish between the two. He says that although the N85 has a smaller screen (just), but the ‘swanky new’ OLED technology causes a ‘remarkable’ difference. Damien shares a lot more thoughts, so head over to read the full article.

Have you seen the two devices side by side? What do you think of the screen difference? Leave Damien a comment with your experiences.

N85 is an object of desire

November 24th, 2008

aDuKa wants the N85, and isn’t afraid of letting others know it, which he does on the Insanity vs. Stupidity blog.

From the ‘eye-catching’ 2.6” OLED screen and 5MP Carl Zeiss camera unit, aDuKa reckons the device has got what it takes to become his next handset. The ‘smooth, sleek’ finish gives the device the looks, and the features speak for themselves. In other N85 news, yestelli has posted a video shot on his device on his blog showing off what is (in his opinion) a quality camera.

What do you think of the device? Is there anything you’d like to add to what has been said? Jump through either link to have your say.

Nokia issued with a ‘to do’ list

November 24th, 2008

The Renegade Fanboy has come up with a wish list of improvements and innovations that he’s looking for Nokia to implement in the coming weeks and months.

Some of them are to do with devices and limiting the number of releases in each year. He reckons that there should be two N- and two Eseries per 12 months. He also implores the manufacturer to ensure that all devices are made released with USB charging. Many of the suggestions are quite enlightening, so head over and see what you think, then add any more you’re desperate to see.

N85 from a forum’s perspective

November 20th, 2008

a2k24 has got his hands on an N85, and has put his multi-post review up on the Mobile Review forum.

In it, he expresses surprise at the size, saying the device is ‘compact’ and ‘smaller than expected’ and the screen is the best ‘by far’ of any Nokia he’s seen. He even includes some sample pics taken with the camera, and a few screen grabs showing the theme before moving on to his conclusions.

Having read the review and the comments, is there any you’d like to add to the list of questions that a2k24 is answering? Jump into the forum and ask away.
