N95 8GB photos – this time food

October 10th, 2008

Yesterday we brought you pictures of frogs taken with the N95 8GB, this time it’s pizza as Mark Guim from The Nokia Blog shows us that sometimes an LED flash is perfect for the situation.

Eating in New York’s most famous pizzeria, Mark reckons that the xenon flash of the N82 and 6220 Classic would have been too strong for the ambient light and washed the colour out of the photos.

Having recovered from seeing a pizza that large (see the slideshow at the bottom of the post), is there anything that you’d like to ask Mark about the camera of the N95 8GB? Jump over and share your thoughts on his pictures.

N95 8GB camera snaps in the dark

October 9th, 2008

Ravindra from the Symbian-Life Blog has continued his series of posts documenting nature through the N95 8GB and has shared his latest images with his readers.

The subject matter is frogs, but the interesting thing to note is that the images were captured at night time in extreme dark conditions, leaving Ravindra to rely on the flash to ensure his snaps were as good as they could be.

Having had a look at what he captured in pitch dark, what do you think of the N95 8GB camera? Does the flash live up to expectations? Jump over and share your image capture experiences with Ravindra.

Is the N82 camera better than the N95 8GB when the flash is ignored?

September 15th, 2008

Devin Balentina from The Nokia Guide has posed a simple question: is it the flash on the N82 that makes the pictures so superior?

Testing the N82 against the N95 8GB, Devin explores in detail what happens when you ignore the Xenon flash and compare the two devices in a head to head. The results show that despite claims that both devices feature the same camera module, there are differences in the quality of image produced. Why? Well, Devin suggests there is better image processing software in one of the devices, but to find out which one you’ll have to jump over to the full post!

N95 camera scratches – do they matter?

September 11th, 2008

Much has been made of the lack of lens protection on some of Nokia’s devices, but Steve Litchfield from All About Symbian has gone into Myth Buster mode to try and sort out the issue once and for all.

He has taken his much-cared-for N95 which has a series of fine scratches on the lens despite his constant cleaning of the glass (what he didn’t realise was he was grinding in microscopic particles of dirt with his shirt corner) and has taken some snaps to prove his point. The point being that until there is an issue with flare from a bright light (flash in a mirror or direct sun) there is very little difference as to whether scratches on the lens are actually a problem.

Do you agree with Steve’s conclusions? What are your experiences with your device’s camera? Head over and join the comment stream.

Erazer007 has posted a selection of photographs taken on the N95 8GB in India, mostly to show the power of the device, partly to celebrate India’s Independence Day on August 15th.

Have you tested the camera of your device like this? Pleased with the results? Head over and share your experiences with Erazer007.

N95 photographs – still looking good

August 7th, 2008

Abul from Symbian in Motion has been out and about snapping with his N95, and reckons the results are still ‘decent’.

He says that the device is a ‘true legend’, and still holds its own two years after its release – a ‘defining moment’ in Abul’s eyes. Taken in close up mode, but with other settings as normal and untouched, take a look at one of the pics and see what you think.

Have you just stared using the device and want to know about the camera settings? Head over and ask Abul.

N95 8GB – design classic?

August 1st, 2008

One thing that often gets overlooked when reviewing the N95 8GB is its design. The expandable memory and Carl Zeiss Optical lens are more regular topics of discussion, but not in erazer007’s blog!

Focusing instead on the stylistic quality of the device in a series of black and white photos, erazer007 shows off the handset’s various features. Obviously the two way slider plays a big part in the display, exposing the numerical keypad and one side and the intuitive quick access music keys. This model has everything you would expect from ‘the Swiss army knife’ of devices and more, including Nokia’s mapping and GPS software, so seeing the stylish design is a welcome change.

With the news that the N96 is to be released in October, erazer007’s post serves as a timely reminder as to why this model is still so popular. Head over to the site and leave a comment letting him know what you think of his snaps.

N95 8GB takes ‘great’ macro snaps

July 28th, 2008

The Nokia Blog’s Mark Guim has been out and about with his N95 8GB and has posted some macro shots he took in the Bronx’s Botanical Garden this weekend.

Initially ‘intimidated’ by the tripod-hefting, foot-long lens Digital SLR-toting crowd, Mark soon settled in to his task, and was satisfied by the results. As you can see from the picture below, Mark came out with some impressive images.

Commenters on the site agree that the pictures are quality – Micky says there are some ‘great close up photos’ and Ravindra’s comment reads ‘Wow Mark, these shots are great, very good and details are so clear’.

So what are the best shots that you have taken with the N95 8GB? What do you think of Mark’s shots? Head over and let him know.
