N95 creates award winning images

September 22nd, 2008

James Burland has posted the winners of his N95 photography competition on his Nokia Creative blog.

He has chosen the winners for their ‘detail and colour reproduction’, and the first image (below) has ‘detail and subtlety of colour’ that are second to none in James’ opinion.

Have you got any images that can match these? Are these the best N95 pictures you have seen? Head over and share your thoughts with James.

N95 photographs – still looking good

August 7th, 2008

Abul from Symbian in Motion has been out and about snapping with his N95, and reckons the results are still ‘decent’.

He says that the device is a ‘true legend’, and still holds its own two years after its release – a ‘defining moment’ in Abul’s eyes. Taken in close up mode, but with other settings as normal and untouched, take a look at one of the pics and see what you think.

Have you just stared using the device and want to know about the camera settings? Head over and ask Abul.

N95 gets a camera work out, and a comparison to its 8GB big brother

June 23rd, 2008

The camera on the N95 is often a major factor in users deciding to plump for the Nseries device over any other handset. It is always interesting therefore to see it put to work in new ways.

This time it is Rahul Nair of The Racing Geek who has ventured out and about with the N95 to see what he can capture, and how well he can capture it. What does he think? Well to give you a clue he uses the word ’spectacular’, but for the full picture (pun fully intended) you’ll have to jump over.

Enrique Gutierrez writing on his own blog is another impressed by the N95’s camera. He has recently been comparing the N95 8GB to his N95-3 and found that, despite a loose slider, all his expectations have been met. Jump over to read more and leave a comment.

Smartphone Show tests the N95 and N82 cameras against the best

May 4th, 2008

Another episode of Steve Litchfield’s Smartphone Show brings a test of the best 5MP camera smartphones on the market.

The N95 classic and N82 take on the Sony Ericsson K850i and LG viewty over a series of tests. The Nseries devices trump the competition on colour quality, while the issue of detail is much more of a mixed bag over the tests. Nokia’s camera darlings do come out on top, but to find out which one, well, you’ll just have to take a look!

N95 photo awards deliver. Again.

April 15th, 2008

James Burland from Nokia Creative has doled out his Photo Awards for March, and some of the images are truly stunning.

To think that these pictures are taken from a mobile device simply would not have occurred to many people five three two years ago. They rival professional digital SLR cameras for quality and clarity, and whilst they might not stand up to detailed scrutiny, certainly match in terms of eye-catching excellence. The immediacy of whipping your device out of your pocket and snapping, compared to time spent setting up a digital shot is testament itself to the convenience of eschewing your bulky digital camera in favour of the pocket-sized multi-purpose N95.

So what do you think? Think you can do better? Jump over and let James know.

Unleash the beast that is your Nseries camera

April 14th, 2008

Mike from The N82 Blog reckons the camera on the N82 has the potential to ‘make stunning images’. He gives some helpful tips on how to maximise the power of the camera by moving away from the automated settings and doing things like using the flash in daylight.

Mark Guim at The Nokia Blog has used the camera on his N95-4 to capture and upload some video footage and take some snaps. How do you think the video compares to home movies shot on camcorders?

As if all that wasn’t enough, there are yet more examples from Devin Balentina on The Nokia Guide, with more hints and tips to help you maximise the performance of the Nseries camera.

With all the helpful advice out there, Annie Leibovitz is surely a marked woman. Jump through any of the links above to have your say on how you find the performance of your Nseries camera.

N81 8GB and N95-1 stretch their legs

April 14th, 2008

erazer007 has reviewed both the N81 8GB and N95-1 and posted his views on the N95 Users forums which are worth a look if you want some new opinions on these devices.

Both reviews feature a good selection of images as well as break downs of the major features on each device. With regards to the N81 8GB the main lets downs are the poor camera and screen in erazer007’s opinion though otherwise it is a great device, and one reccommeded if you don’t quite want to stretch to an N95 8GB.

The N95-1 review sees the battery life and lack of USB charging as the biggest negatives while the glut of other top features (camera, GPS, multimedia) see erazer007 class the N95 (along with its variants) as possibly the best device on the market.

N95 gets itself a telescope…

April 11th, 2008

big_fella_andy over on the N95 User forums has posted his review of a telescope zoom for his N95.

This neat piece of kit gets you closer to the action with your Nseries device, and andy is certainly a bit of fan giving it 8/10 in his review. He likes the ease of use that the telescope offers and thinks that while the quality may deprecate a little, it isn’t anything drastic. He’s even put together some video footage to show off the N95’s video capture with and without the telescope.
