Comparing photo quality across the S60 range

Coinciding nicely with this week’s Carl Zeiss Tour 09, Rafe Blandford has published an article on All About Symbian comparing the imaging capabilites of a number of S60 devices including the N86, the N97 and the N82. It’s an interesting article complemented by a number of comparative photographs from each device. Rafe feels that the N86 performs best out of the group with ‘some obvious examples of superiority and consistently good performance across the full range of photos’.

A day in the life of an N82

The wide ranging capabilities of the N82 and its ability to simplify everyday life are explored in a review posted by Sandy on Windows Live. His usage of the device over a 24 hour period including everything from checking emails, through to listening to the radio and podcasts, taking photos, GPS mapping and photo sharing, not forgetting the call and messaging capabilites too, leave Sandy wondering for how much longer people will need computers!

N82 - ‘the best’?

Cj has posted his latest thoughts on the N82, and he reckons it could be ‘the best Nseries device you can get today’ - despite the newer releases.

His opinions come from a few days in Kuwait, where the device came to his rescue as a camera - taking ‘great shots’ due to the 5MP and xenon flash - navigation device and primary email center. Cj contends that not many of the other Nseries devices come with such a package.

He’s asking for comments, so if you think a rival nseries is better, head over there and let him know.

Some apps to get your teeth into

Chaos Inc has put together a neat list of the most useful Python and Accelerometer based applications over at Nokia Symbian Themes. There’s a good range in there from classic solutions such as rotate me (if you’re still toting an older handset) to utilities that will send you to tweaking nirvana.

The S60 gaming hall of fame

Dotsisx has been taking a nostalgic trip down the gaming equivalent of memory lane, over at Symbian Guru.

S60 has been her platform of choice for the past three years, so naturally all of the fifteen games on her list of all-time favourites are S60 titles. The crème de la crème of mobile gaming range from the 3D version of the classic ‘Snakes’, to the recently announced, accelerometer-centered, ‘Resco Bubbles’ which should make for ‘hours of tilting’.

N82- For the style seeking?

Over at Mobile Phone Reviews they’ve been getting to grips with the N82.

They boldly rated the device above the mighty N95 for its xenon flash and ‘bright picture capture’. It also fared well in the looks department, being praised for its ‘sparkling and lustrous surface’. However, the N82 fell down slightly on its internet browsing, as the guys felt that the text was a little hard to read, due to the ‘smallish screen’. Overall though, they rated the N82 highly as a device for the ‘style seeking’.

Camera war: E75 vs. N82

The space is awash with Eseries comment, so let’s press on with the ‘mobile death match’ - as the cameras of the E75 and the N82 do battle over at Pestaola, courtesy of Titanas.

He has pitched the two against each other in a series of trials and posts the results for all to see. Along with some opinion about the process of taking images with each device (the actual camera button on the E75 is a ‘pleasure to operate’, and all Nokia devices should have it), he reveals which takes the best snap.
