N95 firmware updated to 31.0.017

January 8th, 2009

According to Apoc over at Symbian Freak there’s been a minor firmware update for the N95, bringing it up to v31.0.017.

He couldn’t grab the changelog yet, but in the SF forum unclebooboo reports that there are fixes to the icon animation, the language bug and the bold menu.

Not much to report so far, but if you have any more info, jump into the forum thread and let everybody else know.

Best replacement for the N95-3?

January 6th, 2009

Erhard has asked a question in Howard Forums about which device to replace his N95-3 with, and has received quite the response.

dimsum05 recommends the E71, but a hit will have to be taken as far as the camera goes, and UFmace picthes in with the suggestion of the N85-2, saying that it has a better battery life and screen than the device he is trading in. ReverendDeath throws the N97 into the mix, if Erhard can wait until it arrives.

Have you got any suggestions? Why not wade into the discussion?

Woe is the life of a Nokia fan

January 5th, 2009

The Renegade Fanboy is decrying his life under the Nokia influence and calling for the day that he is lifted from his ‘despair’.

He lists the things that should have been noticed and fixed by the manufacturer in various devices, including a battery that cannot handle the power of the ‘almighty convergence device’ that is the N95, and the ‘outdated’ PIM, music player, standby screen and more of the 5800 MusicXpress.

Can you add to the list? What would you like to see fixed? Jump over and RFB know.

Some thoughts on Nokia Friend View

December 16th, 2008

Mark Guim over at The Nokia Blog has been looking at Nokia location and micro-blogging tool Friend View and noted a few issues with the service.

The main problem he has found is that not enough of his close friends are using Friend View for it to be worth his time. In the comments Andrew also points out that he doesn’t like the thought of his girlfriend knowing his every movement(!) Have you tried using Friend View? Do you have something to add to this discussion? Share your thoughts here.
