N-Gage WOM WORLD
Ngage RSS FeedMixed N-Gage news
July 25th, 2008
There has been a bit of conflicting opinion in the space about whether N-Gage is the powerhouse it really should be, and to exemplify this, we bring you two posts from this week.
Mike from The Nokia N82 Blog has written that, for him, N-Gage isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. He openly admits that he’s ‘not a fan of N-Gage’ due to the pricing structure, and he ‘wasn’t impressed’ by the demos he has tried. He has ‘never been excited’ about an N-Gage game, has ‘never played the same game twice’, and ‘never wanted to purchase’ one. On the other hand, Uber Phones reports excitedly that N-Gage is now available on more devices. The N78 and N96 have been added to the suite of devices that can be harnessed to N-gage, thus making ‘the list of potential gaming buddies’ that little bit longer. They are clearly keen on the addition of the new devices, thus completing our dichotomous split in the blogosphere.
Which side of the debate do you come down on? Are you a fan or an N-Gage cynic? Jump through the links and have your say on either of the sites, try and persuade Mike N-Gage is great, or the Uber Phones guys that it really isn’t.

N-Gage takes on iPhone
July 25th, 2008
Emo185 has posted on his Gaming Blog on the recent arrival of games on the iPhone platform and the possible threat to N-Gage.
He reports that there are numerous other comparison posts out there in the space, and he tries to bring his own perspective to the debate. He reckons that the first batch of N-Gage games still ‘holds off’ the iPhone games. He does say that the two platforms are currently ‘evenly matched’, with the Apple product having ‘the numbers, but the Nokia suite of games having ‘the quality’, highlighting the quintessential difference between the two. He says iPhone games are for ‘everybody’ whereas the N-Gage products are for the ‘dedicated’ – quite the dichotomy some would say, and one which underlines the distinction between the glossy shiny iPhone and the more understated Nseries range.
What are your thoughts about the differences between iPhone games and N-Gage offerings? Do you prefer one over the other? Where does the quality lie in your eyes? Get yourself over to Emo185’s site and share those thoughts.

N-Gage survey
July 16th, 2008
Over at the All About Symbian forum, Tzer2 has posted a survey to see where you N-gagers.. erm….engage with the platform most regularly. The choice of venues is *interesting* to say the least and includes the options of playing games in the toilet, the car (though not whilst driving, obviously), or at school/uni/work, where the important stuff can wait until you reach the next level.
Head over and let them know where you play the most, and help them, find out where the world uses N-Gage.
If you haven’t already, you also still have the chance to try and find Anssi. Where is he? You’ve gotta keep your eyes peeled!

WidSets for N-Gage users
July 14th, 2008
gznuniverse from N-gation has been busy with the new WidSets widgets tool, and has embraced the technology to bring it to the N-Gage community.
By creating widgets for forums and games, gznuniverse has given his readers a way to get a ‘quick lazy update’ on all the issues that concern them in the N-Gage forums. Useful for anyone who just needs a ‘quick update’ and doesn’t want to reply to threads or read past the first couple of entries, the widgets will provide a handy digest for N-Gage-mad users on the move. gznuinverse has even provided and helpful screenshot of each, just so you know what they look like in advance.
Have you found a way to use WidSets that differs from the rest? What do you think of gznuniverse’s efforts? Jump over and let him know.

N-Gage will take time to bed in
July 1st, 2008
On the All About N-Gage pages, Ewan Spence has posted an editorial about the relative merits of N-Gage platforms past and present.
He says that it would be wrong for people to question the current state of N-Gage games (as suggested by a colleague), as there is always a period of bedding in before developers fully get to grips with the capabilities of a new platform. He cites the ‘bundle of average’ launch titles when the PSP hit the streets, and says that the best stuff usually take between 12 and 18 months to filter through. For that reason, it was worth putting up with N-Gage games like Puzzle Bobble on the Classic platform, because you knew eventually there’d be superb titles like Pocket Kingdom. And the chap behind that game, Scott Foe, is about to unleash his new progeny Reset Generation on the new N-Gage users. Patience, it’s all about patience.
Do you agree with Ewan? Do you think that a lag is acceptable before decent games show up on a platform? Jump over and let him know.
If that hasn’t whetted your appetite for N-Gage, you might to see if you can find Anssi. Where is Anssi? Keep your eyes peeled, your mind sharp and your mouse handy and you might just find out

Where does N-Gage go from here?
June 24th, 2008
When Maps 2.0 was launched it was a much improved product compared to the first incarnation. This is a point noted by Tzer2 over on All About N-Gage and inspires an article on exactly where the second release of N-Gage can improve.
Covering everything from introducing a horizontal mode for the N-Gage client to a reliable back-up and restore method to ensure saved games are never lost, it’s an in-depth list. The ten point covered also look at a way to transfer games between devices (a sore point for many gamers at current) and that old favorite, a general increase in speed.
What are your thoughts? Jump over for the full article.

N-Gage games – gameplay vs. graphics
June 2nd, 2008
Teo from Symbian Freak has opened the age-old debate that haunts many a gamer’s darkest hours – which is more important, graphics or gameplay?
That he writes from the perspective of an N-Gage user is handy for those of us keen to establish how the Nokia platform’s games hold up to some serious testing. He thinks that some people will focus purely on the graphics, and that will be a ‘major influence on their purchase’. On the other hand, there are games like Space Invaders with phenomenal gameplay but under-par graphics. He reckons Nokia should release a device with dedicated gaming hardware as opposed to ‘dedicated gaming keys’ like on the N81. Then N-Gage could release games that blew everyone away with both their graphics and gameplay.
But what do you think? There is of course, the usual SF link to the forum where the debate rages on, so jump in and voice your opinion.

N95 as a gaming device
May 27th, 2008
The guys over at All About Ngage have put just updated their comprehensive review of the N95 with a detailed look at its capabilities as a gaming device.
Overall opinion? Well, with landscape mode, gaming keys, motion sensors, wi-fi and TV-out the N95 pretty much makes the perfect Ngage capable gaming device that’s available at the moment. They recommend that the N95-8GB might be a touch better, but mixed reports on key issues leave them to conclude the N95 is still the winner. Jump over for the full review.
