Using the Share function allows photos to be fed into a live channel which also allows friends to add their own content. Downloading music is ‘relatively painless’, and the quality was comparable to other services. What impressed Wilfrid was the ability to send an attachment that is stored on your PC when one is on the go, a ‘useful feature to have’.

Terrible in itself, and a damning indictment on the way the world is going, but think of the information that could have walked out of the door with the handsets. But what’s this? Ovi to the rescue? Yes, folks, clever Devin had the foresight to save all his pertinent details to Nokia’s servers using the Ovi Sync service, meaning his appointments, notes and contacts were safe.

‘Who needs Flickr anymore’ he says ‘when Share on Ovi gives you virtually unlimited storage’ for your snaps? The 100MB per image seems to be the only limit, a fact that Zit can live with. He also reckons that the new Sync service from Ovi will easily replace all other similar apps due to its ease of use, which he reckons is a different user experience to Apple’s MobileMe.

He reckons it was ‘dead simple’, as all he did was select E71 (his current device of choice) from a drop down, and followed the instructions sent via text. All his contact, calendar and notes are now backed up on Nokia’s server. One minor gripe is the fact that Ovi as it stands won’t sync with Outlook, Google Calendar or other non-Nokia apps and services.

They discuss Nokia’s aims to let their portal be the main repository of file sharing (images and videos) available to mobile device users. Citing newer devices such as the 6220 and N96 as those with Ovi integrated, allowing users quicker access to uploading. The Nokia Zone guys say that by pushing out your life for others to share through your pics and videos it helps encourage growth of the community.

She recognises that users want to check email on the move and then delete messages from both the device and the server at the same time. But she wants to be able to get rid of them on her handset, and check them later. She says Nokia Email gives users and ease of set up, no hidden fees and the enhancement of the device’s capabilities. She likes the way the service is heading, and is looking forward to future developments.

He says that by utilising Sync, users can back up all the information from their device (by using a data connection such as WiFi), then retrieve it when necessary (in the event of a lost handset for example) with no need for your own PC to be involved.
