OVI WOM WORLD
Ovi RSS FeedOvi Sync feels the forum love
September 1st, 2008
There are threads on most of the big forums that are burgeoning with comment about the new Ovi Sync site.
The Symbian Freak discussion includes comments like ‘awesome’ from NZtechfreak and that it ‘looks killer’ from krisq. acurrie from the Howard Forums thread says he has been waiting for this feature ‘forever’ and itszmk71 reckons the launch is ‘great news’. Loads of positive comment coming then, the only slight gripe being when things didn’t work out straight away, but eventually things sorted themselves out.
Have you tried this service yet? What do you think? Jump into either of the discussions to have your say.

August 29th, 2008
Matthew, writing on Darla Mack’s site, has posted his thoughts on why he thinks Share on Ovi won’t succeed.
He says the service leaves him feeling ‘frustrated and underwhelmed’, and the lack of 3rd party apps (only Shozu after a year of having their API available) is driving him to distraction. He also has issues with Share on Ovi being exclusively for Nokia users, and specifically S60 users, saying that it leaves ‘50% of the world in the cold’. He also would like to see the site be ‘easy and intuitive’, which at the moment he doesn’t think it is.
Do you agree with Matthew? Are you a Share on Ovi user, or even an advocate? Jump over and let him know your thoughts.

Ovi Music Store experience
August 22nd, 2008
A couple of users have tried Ovi’s new Music Store, with varied success.
JFRobinson from The New Digital Cinema blog attempted to use a Mac running Safari but ran into a closed Ovi (door) by not meeting the specifications of running Internet Explorer on a PC. He tried the mobile route with his Nokia 6555, only to be told he needed an Nseries device. Stuart Sheridan on his blog, however, has a completely different take on the site (although does highlight the fact that IE has to be used), saying it is ‘fantastic’ and a ‘sensational experience’. With some clear screen shots, Stuart shows what lies in store.
Have you tried the Music Store yet? Have you been successful? Head over and let the guys know if your experiences were any better.

Ovi + Facebook = happy campers
August 21st, 2008
Ravindra from the Symbian-Life blog has written about his experience with the recently announced Share on Ovi app to be found over at Facebook.
Originally when the app was announced, Ravindra was excited at the prospect, believing it to be the answer to his slideshow troubles, but was thwarted by teething troubles. Now fixed, he says that this is the ‘coolest application’ on Facebook, letting him share all his Ovi slideshows with his Facebook friends. He says it’s ‘easy and simple’ and urges users to try it out, so your N82 snaps get seen by your nearest and dearest.
Have you implemented this on your profile yet? What do you think of the service? Head over and leave Ravindra a comment.

Speed up your S60 device
August 19th, 2008
Sometimes tips turn up in ones and twos in various blog posts and forum threads, but tarak on the Noeman forum has consolidated lots of tricks into one handy list.
Some will be well known to long time users, but those new to S60 might be looking for ways to speed up their experience. Hints like setting log durations to one day instead of thirty, and using numerical keys to navigate menus are old hat to most S60 owners, but tricks like keeping your firmware updated will be useful for newbies/normobs.
Can you add to the list? Is there one overriding tip that speeds up your experience? Join in the conversation and share it with other users.

Ovi – solving your digital crisis
August 18th, 2008
Arie Wijaya writes on his blog about looking forward to sorting out his digital life with Ovi.
He says that the service will reach into your PC and sync all your files through the online portal, in a concept that Arie likes for its ‘simplicity’. It’ll also mean that the N95 he has will be able to access the digital files (we’re talking photographs, videos, music) while he is miles away from his PC. The only caveat that Arie says is attached to the service is the fact that connection is needed via Wifi to get the best results.
Are you going to organise your digital life using Ovi? Do you think it is a good concept? Head over and let Arie know what you think.

August 13th, 2008
A couple of you out in the space have posted about various aspects of the Share on Ovi service recently.
Gomcoite from the S60 Blog writes with instructions of how to embed a Share on Ovi widget in a Wordpress blog. There are instructions of how to achieve this, with a difficulty rating and time expectation. Adonis on the adonismobile pages has posted about the mobile site for Share on Ovi, especially now the developers have spent some time ‘jazzing it up’. The site allows you to view contact uploads and organise your media while you are away from the PC.
Do you use Share on Ovi to publish your photos and videos direct to the web? Have you seen the new site? What are your thoughts? Jump over to either site above and leave your thoughts.

Adventures with a Mac - from a long time S60 user
August 6th, 2008
Hot on the heels of the recent release of Missing Sync, Steve Litchfield from All About Symbian looks at how to get your S60 device to talk to a Mac, through the eyes of a ‘Mac virgin’.
The first step he attempted was to tether his devices to the laptop, and it turned out to be a surprisingly easy experience. Bluetooth pairing was extremely straightforward and quick, and whilst Steve had to install some software before he could properly sync the device with the laptop, this too didn’t take a long time using the in-built iSync.
Have you managed to sync your device with your Mac? Did you have any problems? Head over and leave a comment for Steve.

Files on Ovi sparks debate
August 5th, 2008
Over on the All About Symbian forum, a debate has been started about the new (out of beta) Files on Ovi service.
A lot of the conversation is about the price point of the service, with many feeling it may be a touch high. Brendan thinks that it is ‘expensive and only mildly useful’, and visitorplanet putting forward the argument that ‘you can use a combination of cheaper services to get the same thing’. Tzer2 seems to be the lone voice fighting Nokia’s corner, saying that there might have to be a lot of trial and error to find a service that works and can be successful amongst users.
Have you tried the Files on Ovi service yet? What do you think? Will this sink or swim? Head over to the forum and join in the conversation.
