N97 review - the serious one

Having entertained us all with his N97 review featuring a cardboard box, Christopher Stobbs has unboxed his N97 and brings us his more considered thoughts on his N97 Review pages.

He covers the ‘physical wow factor’, the ’solid’ camera shutter and the ‘OMG it’s great’ sliding mechanism. There are some pics too, of the device alone and comparing it to others.

Final thoughts on the Carl Zeiss Tour 09

Meraj Chhaya has posted his conclusions having returned from Germany and the Carl Zeiss Tour 09 over at PhoneReport.

Along with many pictures of the factory and the lenses being produced and tested (like the one below, cool), Meraj reports the care that has been taken in just building the factory to ensure no unneccesary vibrations disturb the production.

E72 launched

June 15th, 2009

The latest in the Eseries has been launched today, and has been extensively covered by those who are keen of eye.

Vaibhav Sharma has posted his thoughts over at The Symbian Blog, in which he looks at the early information that’s available and sums up by saying the new device is ‘basically the E71 with a 5Megapixel camera, Feature Pack 2 …and a redesigned keyboard’.

JayVee Fernandez goes one step further, however, and has posted some live images of the device on A Bugged Life.

E75 hardware review

June 11th, 2009

Mark Guim has an E75, and lets us know what he thinks of the build quality and hardware on The Nokia Blog.

He can see how others would take to the QWERTY keyboard, and although the keys were too flat they gave him good feedback. The build is as solid as other Eseries and the device is ‘feature-packed’, with more promised in coming days on this.

E71 - making life more manageable

An aspiring writer has published an article about how certain tools have enabled him to make his creative output ‘quicker, slicker, and better than without’. Jonathan L. Lawrence describes his purchase of an E71 as ‘a revelation’. Basic features like notes, voice recorder and camera - as well as the ability to handle documents from his computer (through Quickoffice) - have ’simplified’ his life no end.

E75 reviewed

Over on Sense Applied, Farhan has given an account of the first 5 days of using the device. There are insights into everything from the packaging of the device through to its performance, improvements over other Eseries devices, and its shortcomings.

Overall he seems particularly pleased with the keyboard, and believes the device is “beautiful” with a “true executive look”.

Looks like there’s some chatter about Ns, and even N97s, being hidden around the UK. Christian, over on World of Nokia has covered the mysterious opening to the whole affair, while it looks like Jay, from My Nokia Blog, and Ben on The Really Mobile Project, have both been deliberating over clues that they seem to reckon, will lead them to an N97. Intriguing :) Richard Siddle has even set-up a Facebook group!

Nokia E75 camera springs a surprise

May 27th, 2009

Much has been made of the key features of the E75 device, but for tnkgrl it is the camera that has proved to be the real surprise feature of the device.

Whilst the spec of the camera is nothing extraordinary (3.2 megapixel sensor, auto-focus, macro, a single LED flash, and VGA video recording at 30 fps) the results are what is most impressive - “Color balance, exposure, and level of detail are fantastic, especially in daylight – in fact, the E75 camera performance approaches that of the 5 megapixel N85/N79 camera”
