E72 thoughts from All About Symbian
June 18th, 2009
On the lastest AAS Insight podcast Rafe Blandford gives us his thoughts on the newly released E72.
He’s ‘pleasantly surprised’ at how much has changed and cites, amongst other things, the performance improvements brought about by the upgrade to Feature Pack 2. He reckons this will bring better speed and better battery life to the device. Rafe adds that the addition of the Opti Navi Key will be useful fro scrolling email lists and will enable easier browsing. The design tweaks have made it look nicer than the E71, and the camera upgrade to a 5MP unit can only be an improvement.

The audio test: N95-4 vs N82
June 27th, 2008
When your car stereo conks out, what do you do? Sing to yourself as you trundle about, or employ the services of a high end Nseries device? The answer is the latter, obviously. At least it is if you’re Mobile Dan!
When testing the N95 and N82 on the same track, with the same settings, the N82 was found to be marginally better, when listening in a moving car through the speakers. There wasn’t much in it, but the N82’s speakers seemed to cope better with louder volumes. Dan also mentions the other audio facets (storage, headphones sound) as well as more general features of the two devices in this post, so head over if you’re looking for a new comparison.

Is the N95 8GB music to your ears?
May 28th, 2008
Not if you happen to be Zach writing over on Symbian In Motion…
Surprised that the device’s audio quality doesn’t get more coverage, Zach makes it clear that the audiophile within him is not impressed by the N95 8GB’s offerings. He’s tried it with headphones and speaker of every quality and feels that mid-range mP3 players trump the ‘king kong of do it all handsets’ every time. With ‘Comes With Music’ among other audio interests on the horizon, ponders Zach, is this as good as it gets from Nokia?
What do you think? Does the N95 8GB cut it as your music player of choice? Jump over to leave your comments with Zach.

Video recording comparison (audio) of Nseries devices
April 8th, 2008
Having a camera on your mobile device is par for the course these days, and a lot of us snap away all day long because, well, we can! Of course, sometimes we also take video with our devices but the quality, especially in the sound department, isn’t always up to scratch compared to stand-alone alternatives. Or is it? Steve Litchfield tries to find out…
Writing on All About Symbian, Steve compares the N82 and N95 with the N93 and E61i in a nice simple video, that gives a great comparison of their relative merits. Jump over to read Steve’s full thoughts and leave your comments.

Dolby Digital sound goes mobile with the N95 8GB
April 3rd, 2008
Will at Into Mobile brings news of a partnership that could just be music to your ears…
Writing from the CTIA 2008, he has been looking at Dolby’s new digital sound software running on an N95 8GB. He first heard the what dolby can do to stereo sound on a mobile device back at Mobile World Congress last month, and thinks that the 3D modeling the app can bring to music and movies is awesome; a perfect accompaniment to the N95 8GB which should hopefully be appearing soon.

MD-6 speakers trialled with the N95 8GB
March 11th, 2008
Enjoying music is just one of the many things you can do with your Nseries device. Devin Ballentina at The Nokia Guide looks at whether you can increase that enjoyment by using the Nokia MD-6 speakers.
The main down point with the MD-6 speakers is that they take 4x AAA batteries. Devin sees this as environmentally irresponsible, not to mention a hassle buying and even removing them all the time. He reckons a rechargeable battery utilising the standard Nokia charger would be best all round. On a more positive note (literally) the sound was great and a marked improvement on the internal speakers on his N95 8GB. They’re also very portable and sturdy as well, prompting Devin to mark them as a 7/10.

Stabilize your video taken on an Nseries device
February 26th, 2008
Do you take a lot of videos on your Nseries device? James Burland over at Nokia Creative certainly does, and he’s keen to ensure they look as good as possible.
This is where stabilization comes in and, in this case, a little app (for OSX only unfortunately) called iStabilize. It can do amazing things with the footage from your Nseries device, and could just salvage holiday reels or video of nights out that you thought were just too jerky to see the light of day. As James says, wouldn’t it be great to see current stabilization options upgraded to something more like this?
Jump over to see James’ demonstration of the software, and leave any feedback or comments as the developers are keen to hear from users of Nseries devices.

N78 is music to your ears
February 17th, 2008
Amir at Mobile Space has touched upon the features that make the N78 really stand-out in its class.
First up he lauds the battery power, 1200mAh, which can keep the tunes playing for up to 24 hours. Amir is also keen on the svelte size of the device, which is very pocketable and light especially with a 3.5mm jack and GPS squeezed in. Further, the FM transmitter included in the N78 is the icing on the cake for audiophiles giving you access to your music in more ways than ever before on an Nseries device.

Stream your media to your N95
December 27th, 2007
While many features on your N95 may get daily use, there are other hidden gems you may not have considered yet. The update to firmware version 20 has brought seamless UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) to the N95 which means you can now access your photos, music and videos stored on your computer.
Anuj Singhal at The Symbian Blog is interested in these capabilities of the device and has written a solid guide to getting yourself up and running streaming media to your N95 over a home Wifi network. While he notes that this has been possible for a while, the new implementation in the latest firmware makes it a relatively simple task.

Nokia N95 takes another award
August 15th, 2007
Symbian-freak have received the news that the N95 has been anounced the European Media Phone of the Year 2007-2008 by the European Imaging and Sound Association, EISA. EISA say that “within the Nokia N95’s exceptionally ergonomic housing resides practically every feature one could imagine in a mobile device”, making it a clear winner in their esteemed minds. Do you think this is a good decision? Have your say in the Symbian-freak forums.
Obviously, this increases the danger from Jealous computers, who will only be more envious of the N95’s popularity. To protect yourself, keep your eye on Dr Shopova’s ever helpful website. Look after yourself, Nseries users!

Nokia acquires Twango: good for your Nseries?
July 26th, 2007
Jonathan Greene of atmaspheric | endeavors has been musing over Nokia’s recent acquisition of the social media site Twango. This new ‘endeavour’ for the Nseries will allow for more seamless integration for your device’s videos, pictures and audio with the rest of the internet world.
Jonathan isn’t so sure that Nokia have made the best move here, saying that their focus is on the wrong place, with the Twango developments complicating connectivity rather than simplifying it. Whether you agree with him or you think Nokia are making the correct steps, let him know.
